Squats and 5x5 ?

I always time the breaks between my sets. I like consistency. Usually with squats I give myself 1.5 minutes between sets.

With a heavier weight lower rep routine like 5x5 or 5x3 do you guys think that 1.5 minutes is enough? I've been using much heavier weights than usual for 2 weeks now and it's tough.

I'm still huffing and puffing when I get under the bar for the 3rd set and beyond.

5x5 squats is rough when the weight gets really heavy. The point is for you to get ALL 5x5 and hopefully increase the weight the next week. This being said, I would take a long enough rest period to allow me to grind out all 5x5. To me (well atleast for the 5x5) it just doesnt make sense to get under the bar if you are still winded from the previous set.
 
Yep - 3 mins is what I generally take. You are better off resting just a bit longer and finishing the sets/reps than taking a slightly shorter rest and failing.
