SPLENDA ADDICT... How much is too much

I'm a total sugar addict, I admit it! Even if my mother was extremely food conscious and we were never allowed to eat junk food or fast food, we always finished dinner with a homemade desert like apple crumble, date squares, lemon pie...you get my point. Even if I've made leaps and bounds since those days, I just can't seem to not have something sweet during the day. There is Splenda in my coffee, in my oatmeal, in my protein pancake mix, even mixed in with my egg whites (along with cinnamon and a little vanilla essence, divine!) So how much am I hurting my leaning out goal???? :worried:

It is hard to say how much your hurting it unless of course you took one week to go without completely then see how your progress is compared to when you have it in your diet. I have a sweet tooth as well I have found chewing on cinnamon sticks helps it is also a natural appetite suppressant.

That's alot of splenda you're using. If you use a couple of packages a day is too much. I suggest you change to stevia, which is natural. Also, you have to lower the consumption of any of the them. I try to use 3 packages of stevia per day. I am also a sugar lover, but I also know how bad is for you. It's a choice you have to make.

Remember, our taste bud gets use to just about anything.

Wow, you've got such a strong will :o sometimes I think you just eat oatmeal, brocoli, chicken and tuna all day :lmao:

We forget that it's easy and yummy to eat food without additives, I like reading your posts because it reminds me that it's possible and sometimes even easy :)

No, I don't eat just oatmeal, broccoli, chicken and tuna, but close, LOL!

It is easy!. Once you get your taste bud used to healthy eating, that's what you'll crave. I no longer crave pasta and I used to be an addict. I have little recollection of what pasta taste like. I do splurge, but it has to be really good. No junk for me!
You can do it, I promise!. I used to have the worst diet.

Actually I was serious about how your posts help me remember we CAN eat right, I've added and removed something of my diet I never thought I would, I added oatmeal which I really used to hate, now I mildly hate it :p

I agree with the ladies so far. Plus, try some other "sweet" alternatives if you can't ween yourself off of sugar. Have it from a more natural source (fruit, honey), in moderation and not late in the day.

I like to add some small pieces of fresh apple in with my oats.
I dice up half an apple and mix it with oatmeal for breakfast. It tastes great and isn't horrible for you.

I tried SO hard to eat oatmeal, more times than I can count, but just couldn't do it! No matter what I put in it, I guess it's the texture that got to me.

Now I eat it daily for breakfast, but in a smoothie. I just grind up the oats in a blender...add water, strawberries, protein & a packet of sweetner, and I have a very filling & satisfying breakfast! YUM!!

The more artificial sweetner you use the more you will be addicted to sugar. It causes sugar cravings.
My technique to not using it at all was simple. If I had it today I would not allow myself to have it tomorrow. If I had it the day after I would make myself go two days without instead of one. I had to go at least an extra day each time. After my first month of doing that I wasn't even using it and didn't realize it!

ok so i've read all the posts so far and I figured I already make alot of sacrifices so what's one more, right? Well, yesterday was my first "moderate" Splenda intake. I just had it in my coffe. I ate my oatmeal, and the rest of my meals, plain. WOOOO. That was hard! I couldn't stop making ugly faces :p while eating the oats and well, green tea is REALLY biter without the sweet stuff! But i made it! and I'm going to keep at it.

I already tried Stevia but got a major headache! Thanks for all your posts, it's been very motivating!

Stevia gave you a headache? Hmm, that's surprising! I suspect it wasn't the stevia, but stopping splenda that gave you a headache. Try agave or mix it with stevia for a while till you get used to it.

I don't know if I can eat oatmeal plain. I love the sweets! A friend of mine suggested to sweeten the oatmeal with 1/2 a banana. I didn't care for it, but it might work for you.
