I didn't want to hi-jack that thread but I wanted to thank all those that responded. I've been squating more in the last few months then I did in the last few years and as the weights were going higher I was starting to feel discomfort in the knees which was making me parnoid. I don't have knee pronlems and want to stay that way. Anyway I always went just below parralell and I couldn't believe some people were saying if you go deeper it takes off the pressure on your knees. So i was on my first day of 5's in HST so the weights were about what I was doing for 10 resps so I figured I would give a try. I dropped my ass down to almost touching my ankles and there was no pain and no discomfort at all in my knees, not to mention I was feeling the additional work load I was doing and I love it. So thank you again to all the good bros who post up, this has been a great year of changes for me and I owe them all to this board.

nice, I've found the same thing over the years, my knees suck ass. But now I cna squat close to 500lbs for reps, with no knee pain, so rock bottom fixed that for me

thats exactly what i do, i go all the way down ass to calves, pause for a brief second then go up, i like it more its more comfortable, plus it kicks my ass the next day, my knees hurt after i sit indian style for a long time and shit like that so i too have noticed it recently

When I first started lifting in 1982 I started my squatting going ALL the way down. ass to grass, hams to calfs, ass in the bucket, whatever you want to call it, I went as low as I could go. I was constantly being told, don`t go so low !!! Don`t do that, its bad for your knees !!! You will get a BIG ASS !!! Well 22 years later I am still squatting ass to grass, hams to calfs, ass in the bucket and at 48 my my knees are just fine and that BIG ASS I was supposed to grow......it never happened.

I seriously am 270lbs with no ass, I had to learn quickly to do quad injects because i was running out of room. I was hoping the squats would add some junk to the trunk but now it looks like I will have to try the delts

Low squats will build your ass up, ain`t no doubt about it but this stuff about your ass growing (out of proportion) cuz your going lower than parallel is a myth perpertrated by half way down squatters not to mention non squatters. A disproportionetly bigger ass will be a predisposed genetic structural thing.....

That's what I have, bro. That's why I go to parallel... I heard needsize stating he got his quads from full squats so I'll probably start doing them anyway. I'll have to drop the weight down though. :(

youll save your knees as well..youll most likely find that youll be back to 315 pretty quickly, only this time youll be going ATF

Well folks, all this talk about deep squats has been interesting so I thought I'd go deep yesterday.

I have to VERY careful with squats due to my chronic lower back problems so I was leery about deep squatting. I can't do a 5X5 routine on squats either, it's just not condusive to a healthy back for me. I WAS using my squats to do higher reps lower weight so I could keep them in my routine, and do the really heavy stuff single legged on the 45 degree sled (try em with one leg...uuuugh).

So I lightend up a bit on the weight and tried 4 sets of deep squats. Definately harder for one thing, I could only do half of what I normally do with shallower squats.

AND to boot, and moreover the reason I'm posting this, is that Needsize is IMHO 100% correct! What a difference in my "pump". He mentioned that he attributed his freaky lower quad size to doing deep squats. Well I can confirm that after doing the deep squats, my lower quads are NOTICABLY more pumped than they've ever been. Unless I got a huge growth spurt last night, even my wife has commented this morning that the lower quad is bigger than usual (definatly a pump from yesterday). This HAS to be due to the deep squatting cause it aint happened before. It will probably dissapear by this evening but clearly if I keep doing this my lower quad will get hit hard over time.

I'm convinced!

Oh yeah, and my back is fine today (usually it feels a bit...delicate? then next day...). Knees too (which also get a little tender the next day).

try to carry the bar lower on your back as well..that will relieve some low back strain and lessen forward lean

Yeah I've noticed that too in the videos. I'm still working on these. My body doesn't like it, it just gets "stuck" halfway past parallel and automaticaly leans forward, as if my anatomy wouldn't allow such a movement.

so deep squats will build the ass more than parrallel ones? makes sense, more stretch in the ass. i have a huge ass for my size and im really new on this squat stuff. only had compliments though, never a dissapointed lady

I can't do this, it feelis like my shoulders are going to rip out of the sockets. I keep the bar high on my traps but I also found that since I have been going below parallel that my lower back hasn't hurt as much so when I then go to SLDL I'm much stronger. Its scary that 4 months ago I was doing full dead lifts with only 225 and now I am doing SLDL with 255.

I tried this and I just can't do it either. I can do it fine without my arms at a point behind my back, but once I hold something (like holding the bar) when I'm down to the lowest part of the full squat, my arms thrust forward. WTF?

good stuff, anyone who does full squats is hardcore.. I dont care how much weight you're using. If you're a PL then it's a different game but for regular trainees I dont see the reason for stopping at parallel (or 6" above like 99% of people)

Today will be my final day of 5's on HST and I'll be using 315 for squats which isn't huge by any means but it is also the heaviest I've ever done with going ATF.

ain`t that the truth....
Ya know whats worse...these clowns that put 20 plates on the leg press then ask two guys to spot them and then go down about 4 inches and press. What exactly does that do?
