Speeding Ticket... what do you guys think?

There was a group of us traveling together this weekend in three separate vehicles. I was the last car in the group. Well, the lead vehicle gets pulled over for speeding. The middle vehicle and I pull over in front of our friend and the officers (there were 2 officers in 2 cars), because we didn't know where we were going and we were waiting for him. So, the lead car gets a ticket for speeding.. 63 in a 45. The officer comes to my car and asks if we were in a group. I said yes. He asked me I knew how fast I was going. I said I didn't know. He tells me since I was so kind to pull over, he was going to write me a ticket as well. So, he writes me a ticket for the same speed, 63 in a 45! I asked the officer if he had me clocked going that speed. He said no, but he didn't need to have me clocked, and that would hold up in court. He then goes to the truck in front of me, who was the middle vehicle. The officer asks him how fast he was going and he says 50-55. He doesn't get a ticket!

I was very upset and don't know what to do really. I've got a court date and I'm going to fight it. I've never had a ticket before and this whole thing just ticks me off. Does anyone have any kind of experience with this that could offer a bit of advice? Thanks.

His theory will hold up in court. Supposedly the cops are trained to be able to clock you by eye, instead of using a gun. That sucks though!!!! By the way, your site looks great!

fucking bullshit just trying to make a quota....def fight till the death...say you were going a certain speed and fight it and stick to it...

Were you speeding ?

I am always aware of my Speed.

He will probably win in court as he is a so called expert in observing highway speeds and you are not.

sorry

I figure I have a couple things going for me. One, I wasn't pulled over by the officer! I just stopped to wait for my friend (won't do that again!). Two, the vehicle directly in front of me got off by saying he was going 50-55. So I can't be going any faster than him because I was right behind him. Three, he never clocked me. I'm going to talk to a lawyer friend to see what he says too.

I would say I probably was. But, the officer didn't know if I was 20 feet or a quarter mile behind the car he actually pulled over.

If you want to go to court on the Principal of it all, go right ahead.

But, Unless you are high on points and don't want 2 more, it will probably cost you more in time off and Legal fees than just paying the fine IMO.

First, Y lifter is wrong. There are no legal fees unless you hire a lawyer. Not fighting it could cost you hundreds or thousands in insurance premiums.

When you cross examine the officer in court ask him if he specifically stopped your vehicle. When he says "No" ask him if he clocked your vehicle with radar. When he says "no" to that you should win your case unless the judge is an idiot. It is possible to win in traffic court. I've done it several times.

Call up Cheese and have him come up and do some of his 'smooth talking' to the Judge... ;)

By law here in Kentucky...they pull over the 'safest' vehicle...the last one in line.

I still that the Cheese is the best way to go...

Fight it... you will win. Just because you were following does mean you were going as fast. His eye was on that one car, not yours.
