specific steroid testing question

XXXL

for anyone who might know i have a specific question about steroid testing.

99.99% of athma treatment are inhaled steroids. though these are small amounts, will you test positive for steroids if using asthma medication(s)? and before someone jumps in here to tell me that asthma meds are not anabolic, yes i know that already. that's not my question. . . :)

say 360 mcg's total per day of albuterol, fluticasone propionate (flovent),salmeterol xinafoate (serevent)?

i know these are very small amounts but given half lives and build up time, i'm wondeing if these would give a false positve? or if the testing is specific enough to tell the difference between AAS and other non-bb'ing steroids.

would just a urine test come up positive thus making them have to do a blood test. and would the blood test be able to establish the difference in the types of steroids in your system. from such things as liver values which might not elevate using non-anabolic meds?

anyone?

thanks!

9 out of 10 tests don't even look for cotisone steroids and ephedra inhalents. Actually, it's closer to 99 out of 100 tests.

The only ones that do as far as I know are the tests given to elite triathletes and road cyclists and any IOC test. NFL tests now look for ephedra which is included in most asthma inhalers. Baseball players just use real gear.

Certain types of medications that appear on the banned substance list are allowed if the athlete is documented to have the actual illness that the drug would be prescribed for. There are limits to this though...you couldn't say your on HRT after failing the T/E test.

Asthma meds and diabetes meds are allowed, and if used within a certain timeframe, will produce a postive test. The positive test is excused.

Asthma seems to be common amongst IOC athletes, as is diabeties. I think that it's largely a load of shit so athletes can use slin with their GH and albuterol and flovent prior to an event.

Some European athletes have been known to claim both diabetes and asthma prior to a test. Total bullshit. But as long as their team doc can vouch, all is ok.

I concur w/MB and Nautica and have a thing or 2 to add:

1) A good GC/MS test on your urine would tell the powers that be exactly what you were taking, but most tests aren't that stringent unless it is an IOC test. Like MB said it all depends on the test and who is administering it. Your test won't return a false positive-it's not like the albuterol is contaminated with nandrolone-like Celltech protein powder!!! A good urine test will give the same results as a blood test. They could tell exactly what you are on from albuterol to EQ to Nesp from a urine test.

2) Most positive urine tests DO NOT lead to blood test. My experience has been (and this depends on the sport really) if you return a positive result in a urine test they test the sample again. They use half for the first test and if it is positive for something they test the second half. This is why you can always claim some kind of chain of custody violations or contaminated sample violations if your second sample is positive too. Most of the time positive results are not made public until the 'B' sample has also tested positive. As well depending on which organization conducted the test and their procedures you can fight the result and keep it suppressed for quite sometime.
