"spare tire"

Hey, just joined the board....

i have a question...i was on a site about liposuction, and at the bottom of the page it said "diet and exercise alone can't get ride of your spare tire"??? is that true? is there anyone here that has lost their "love handles" with diet and exercise ALONE? When i say love handles, im talkin hardcore, hangin over the side of your pants type of love handles.

haha diet and exercise can definitely do it. it might be harder for some people but it's doable.

Stay away from the lipo unless you are already at or under 10% body fat. A friend of mine had lipo done on his sides when he was at about 15%, now he is under ten and has all kinds of weird marks from the surgery.

Is it possible to lose your love handles from diet & exercise...? Are you serious?

OF COURSE IT IS !

Liposuction is a quick fix that's expensive. And in many people, they end up with screwed up rippling of the underlying fat once all the brusing and swelling subsides. Additionally, they old wives tale that once they liposuck you, that the fat can never come back is just that. If you get yourself stabbed and sucked, without any plan to change your diet afterward, you just end up looking like you did before the several thousand dollar process.

Anyway... what's the point of getting rid of the fat if you mess up your body so much that you can't take your shirt off without being self concious.

Learn how to eat properly for your body type and get into the gym. A health club membership and a consultation with a diet specialist will be a whole lot cheaper than lip.

Liposuction is sucking out the actual fat cells...you're born with a set amount of fat cells. If you pull those out, they're gone permanently and it can lead to a lot of health problems. When you're fat, its just a matter of those fat cells filling up with triglycerides, eliminate the trigylcerides and your spare tire will shrink. I'm in ketosis and my spare tire is disappearing, slowly but surely, it's only been 3 weeks. In ketosis you burn tryglycerides in order to obtain ketones rather than burning sugar...I don't know if it's recommended though, you might wanna get more thoughts on this. I know a guy who lost his belly and handles in 3 months while doing a cyclic ketogenic diet.

It's true if you've been cursed with terribly bad genetics, but I think it was more of an advertising gimmick, so don't worry. Diet and exercise can do wonders, surgery should ALWAYS be your last resort...but why be so vain to sacrifice your health so you can get rid of that spare tire ;)

I have a question:
I'm 6-0, 197 lb with 18% fat. In order to be lean:

Would it be better for me to switch to Ketosis, lose fat, and then go back to high-calorie, balanced diet combined with solid 4x/week workouts in order to gain musles or vice versa: First gain (everything I guess) and then trim down the fat with ketosis. ?

The only setback of ketosis that I forsee is that I would also lose muscles...not just fat....

Any feedback on that ?
Thanks

Thanks Liftbig...

I understand that it's easier to gain muscles, if you already have a decent body mass (fat/muscles) but on the other hand, I'm affraid that once I start losing fat, I'll start losing my muscles along with it.

What's a good way to lose fat, while maintaining the muscle weight constant ? High Protein diet, and low carbs, and some cardio ???
