soy vs. whey?

in a nutshell, soy has lots more stuff in it which may be cancer protective, but also has stuff in it which could have oestrogenic effects

so whey is a better option....caesin and albumin are the best in terms of protein quality, but whey digests more quickly

Definitely won't give anyone tits.

Soy can lower estrogen. This has been proven. In fact, the reason it's recommended for women is because it helps prevent cancer by it's anti-estrogenic properties.

Soy + whey = excellent AA profile.

Hahaha, okay fellas, you guys can have all the soy you want.

Here and there won't hurt, but to make it a staple of your protein intake is NOT something I would do.

However, to each his/her own. :)

I have one scoop a day.........soy isolate with my oats.....whey in after training and a slow-digeting (casein usually) in bed...........gotta have that mix, the body becomes accustomed way too easily.........

Both are fine. I use whey myself, its cheap, available, and high-quality. The phytoestrogens in soy stick to the receptors in your bones much better than the receptors elsewhere; meaning you shouldnt get tits from using it. I wouldn't go overboard with the soy just to be on the safe side. Soy generally causes a larger increase in IGF-1, however (I believe most plant proteins do).

It's all a matter of preference. I prefer red meat/chicken/fish/eggs/w.p.i...........

Plant proteins and incomplete sources of proteins don't really appeal to me.

Soy has all the essentials I believe...
it does......I do agree with SC, however, once a day is about all you need.....stick with meat sources, eggs, milk, etc for the rest of your intake.....I sometimes use it post training, as many of the ones I find have some carbs, fats, and sugars tossed into the mix as well........

Right, that is why I was referring to it in the plant category, not so much the incomplete category. I believe it to pale in comparison to the other forms mentioned.

I like an omelette with tofu a couple of day a week - great stuff. Never used soy derived pro-powders but would never worry about phytoestrogens - research is very inconclusive one the matter at this point. Besides can we gear up some studies on healthy individuals, not some pregnant and menopausal rate, or women at best.
