I have found that some of the best episodes are the ones that the general public view as "boring". Those are usually the ones with the best story lines and where the plot develops best. IMO.

This episode was all symbolism

The house opening- Paper still in the driveway, grill unused showed that the “Man” of the house was now missing.

The Bear= A threat to Tony’s family, further showed by the “handsome” wildlife gaming dude that Carmella took a liking to. He was only there because of Tony’s bird food, or better yet Tony’s inability to put his pants on.

Tony’s reaction was initially to pay the dude off and then literally keep Carmella prisoner.

Pauly and Chris only saw eye to eye after wacking the waiter together, something about violence just brings good mobsters together.

Tony came back to Carmella for one night only after he was rejected. See Carmella is the only women who has loved Tony for all the different faces his poses. The “Mob” Tony and the “Lover” Tony. For one night at least he was going to stand guard by his true family. Carmella showed her love for Tony by asking if he wanted coffee, which Tony rejected. Ironic seeing that he asked the Psychiatrist for coffee early only to be rejected himself.
