I have tried many different diets, and tried both 1g protein per lb, 1.5 and up to 2.5g per lb. This is when bulking and trying to put on mass. I have a few things I would like to hear your thoughts on.
The most important when it comes to proteinintake would be this, that there always have to be enough protein all the time in your body for the muscles to grow(lets not bother about carbs and fat right now). Then look at a protein like Whey. Whey is very very fast protein and personally I think to much people lay to much money on this protein. With this fact that this protein is very fast absorbed you will need to drink/take When pretty often for the body to grow. If you compare this to a slow acting protein like meat or casein, a person would not have to eat as much proitein and not as often to get the same growth as with Whey. I think one would have to increase proteinintake if one drink lots of whey during the day, or atleast eat more often when taking Whey. About a year ago I tried taking shakes from pure whey protein instead of meat for small meals during the day. After a while I dropped proteindrinks and went with the same amount protein but from white fish. I must say I felt better, looked better and gained faster.
Ï don't know why I'm writing down this actually, hehe, but I just wanted to hear your opinion on this. Would one need more protein per day if one get protein mostly from whey?
BTW: I will from now change my diet. I eat every other to every third hour and have until now been taking about 40-50g protein per meal. I do actually not think this will give me better gains. If I eat slow protein Every other hour, with some extra fibers and up on the carbs, I think I would gain as much as if I went with a higer proteinintake. I think one of the most important things is to eat lots and lots of protein when the body needs it.
That is:
Breakfast(first meal and been out of protein for a long time)
Pre workout(think if helps a lot when in the gym)
Post workout(this is the biggest change I will do, I will bump my protein to 70-80g all from Whey, this is the time where your body really needs it)
Bedtime: Always Slow protein, about 60g before bedtime with fibers.
The proteinintake probably will decrease a bit, but I think I might be able to put on size easier by eating protein when the body needs is and not always go by the clock(as so many of us do).
Small meals I will eat about 20-25g protein Slow acting.
Maybe this is why some pro's do not eat that much protein after all. If I ate slow acting protein for breakfast at 60g, I doubt I would need to eat protein again until 4-5 hours later. If I ate same amount from Whey I think I would have to eat withon 2-3 hours.
