something i really hate about the human experience

is that social validation is usually integral to our own introspection, and therefore our self esteem...and yet, particularly for those people who are more intelligent (and hence prone to introspection merely because they can) base much of their self image on the perception of others, who, ironically, are not capable of the same level of thought, and hence whose opinion is likely worth less...and so you get superbly capable people hamstrung by their own capability. its sad

...that and, lots of people dont get my jokes, and so need to be shot. in the head. twice.

oh and yeah, i know that no one is going to reply to this thread...so i therefore declare this thread a Fatty Free Zone

It is a good idea to interract with all sorts of people from all walks of life and not limit yourself to people who are only capable of the same level of thought/or lower to your own to inflate your self -confidence. Also do not take people for granted and always keep a little skeptical attitude but don't be cynical.

BTW I get your jokes and laugh inside of me ;)

that was pretty insightful GD, although I've heard even supermodels are supremely self concious on the inside. were you speaking of looks or simply the idea that everyone is self concious, it just bothers some people more than others?

man it's dark in here

if i point my arse at you, i bet you would see light ;)

i actually meant to type 'human experience' as the title of this thread...lol...

anyway - what i mean is exactly what i said...it isnt just looks, or smarts, or decency...its about perception of self, and your frame of reference.

I think if people are basing their own self worth by validation from others they're giving up a lot of their power and handing it off to people who don't matter. Anyone who craves the constant approval of others to feel good about themselves has no identity of their own. It's really sad...and quite common.

how much of our perception is learned?
at what point will a person aquire the skills needed to reassess their world, and their place in it...and have the time to do so? ...regardless of inherent ability?

I can't speak for anyone else but I hit a point where I realized how miserable I was because I was making so many choices in my life based on what I thought I should be doing. I think everyone has the ability to take control of their life. Most people just don't realize it and grab the opportunity. Nomatter how miserable someone is they are always in control. They might not be able to control external factors but it is their decision ALWAYS as to how they choose to react.

Maybe some of that goes back to society's general dislike for taking personal responsibility. It's easier to blame others than to say "look things really suck for me right now but I'm responsible for being in this mess".

I think it's a basic human want though to be accepted. Maybe it's a fine line though between wanting to belong and selling yourself out to blend in. The extent to which I don't value the opinions of others at this point almost makes me feel disconnected from most of the world. I think it makes other people see me as cold and jaded but that's far from the truth.

At least in this moment in my life I'm sorting out my own issues and I have to do this on my own. If I lose everyone in the process of doing what I know is right, so be it. It'll hurt like hell and has already begun but there's no way I will ever be true to myself living a "fake it til you make it" kind of life. I will never find peace if I'm looking for the approval of others instead of doing what I know is right.

Uhh.. err.

Humans have evolved as social creatures.. what you are explaining is a genetically programmed desire to help the group succeed by doing, acting, looking like what the group feels is best. Although their feelings may be misguided by things like the media or other external forces.. its acts upon all of us the same way.

It doesnt matter how intelligent you are.. your genetics will always push you ever so gently in that direction.. people who are outcasts either have some miswiring upstairs or are driving themselevs purposefully away from the group.. yet seek out others who will "outcast' themseleves in the same manner (i.e "goths) and strive to be accepted within that subgroup.

Its human nature.. its one of the things that has enabled our species to survive in spite of our incredible stupidity and constant efforts to destory ourselves.

But despite my mindset pushing people away because they don't understand, I feel really peaceful with myself.

i completely know where youre coming from. sometimes i get that feeling, but mostly, i get bored and push peoples buttons ;) just becasue i can ;)

anyway in regards to your mindset comment...sometimes i think you cant really push them away, since they dont understand well enough to properly close the gap in the first place

i long for that connection sometimes....which usually makes you fuckup and give people attributes that they dont really possess...then the fun really starts

I don't know that I intentionally push people away. I certainly do with some of them. Others just aren't sure how to deal with me. My life's been so artificial for so long that now that they learn the reality of what's going on they don't understand me or my decisions. I suppose it's difficult to explain.

That's why I don't even try. I'm at a point in my life where I need to figure things out for myself without any outside opinions or judgements. Things always work out the way they're supposed to in the end. If losing a lot of people right now is the price I have to pay for doing what is right, so be it.
