6 People Shot, 1 Teen Dead In North York

An 18-year-old man is dead after six people were gunned down outside a townhouse complex near Lawrence and the Allen.

Paramedics rushed the victims out of a house on Amaranth Court just before 10pm Friday. In all, six ambulances were called to the scene.

Police said the teen victim was shot in the head and later died. He's been identified as Abdikarim Ahmed Abdikarim. Another was hit in the groin and is reported to be in serious condition. Four others were hit in the arms and legs.

At this point, police aren't saying much about the investigation.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a silver or grey four-door vehicle driving out of the area after the shootings.

There's no word yet on suspects.

The crime as a whole is harder to look up. Or I'm just lazy. An easy barometer however is comparing the number of murders. Compare the average number of murders in Toronto over the past decade (around 65) vs. that of almost any major American city.

Or an even easier way would be to compare murder rate per 100000 people. US average is 8.8 while in Canada it's 2.3. Toronto is around 2.5.
