and its saying they are missing, and press a key to get into windows to continue.....windows works fine once im in

a friend tried to install a PCMIA card for LAN access, and i assume he screwed something up while he was trying (i didnt have a win98 CD and wanted to see if he could do it with just a driver disk)

anyhow the following files are missing. can someone who is really goo with computers and stuff tell me how i can find out how to resore them. i tried system file check in accessories but could figure out how to restore em

files missing are:

vnetsup.vxd
vredir.vxd
dfs.vxd

and opon opening up windows (i.e. before desktop icons loads it says it cant load mnsp32.dll)

will the problems resiolve when i install the LAN card properly

Remove and Reinstall the card, I have an image of the CD on my drive to avoid these problems, make sure its the same version of 98 as well.

Symptoms

When you attempt to install device drivers or utilities on your computer, you may receive the following error message:

VNETSUP.VXD, VREDIR.VXD, DFS.VXD... MSNP32.DLL - Unable to load the dynamic link library: MSNP32.DLL the System cannot find the specified file. Some, or all, of the following feature is not available: Microsoft Network

thanks for the posts, karma 4 u :)

ahhh;.....it installed its own driver i think. the card now works, but im not 100% if wondows installed its own generic driver, or the one supplied. either way it recognises the card as a 10/100 LAN card but doesnt specify its make

the files are still missing :(

xbiker, i think im really thick because i dont understand your post :(

Look in the Control Panel, it may list it as a brand name 10/100 or just "Compatible 10/100" or something similar, you can look at the Driver Details button under I believe the second tab to find the date on them, if you hit Update Driver you can manaully force it to use your provided drivers not generic or whatver Win decided to use if not the exact correct drivers.

You may have to remove the card, uninstall the drivers, reboot and go to SAFE MODE, and make sure its totally gone, then start over with the correct drivers. Or you can manaully go through SYSEDIT files but that would not be fun or recommended.

thanks i;ll giveit a try.....i hope that gets the files back at least :)
