Softballers..?

Count me in...I play co-ed softball in the summer!!
Second base....and official team drinker!! LOL
Usually only play tournaments though.

Don't know what you call big time whether it is level or how much you play.

I play at least 2 times a week and usually 1 - 2 tourney's per month. Teams I play on play C level for USSSA and ASA. Here in AZ it is very competitive.

I have been asked to play in the A levels but I spent almost 8 years playing pro baseball and don't want the shit that goes with the upper level play. I got a cannon from the outfield and hit bombs and for average so I am tempted to play upper levels just so I can hit the ball out whenever as oppossed to only getting 2 HR's per team per game. Or worse yet that bullshit equalizer rule where you can only go up 1 HR.

awesome rude... You play with any Military guys up there.???? I've got a good friend here that was stationed in AZ.. Said the ball was great.... I say move up man.. They'll always be politics but if you can play, you can play.. Period..... I'm just about to move from here (Italy).. and hopefully I'm heading to Alabama.. You can always count on the South for great softball... thanks for responding...

I'll have you on my team any day toga... I'm sure your a blast....

I live for softball. Speed is my game. I love the outfield but elbow problems have moved me to the infield. I am however tired of stretching doubles into triples so the last couple of years I have getting more into the power game. Jogging around the bases is pretty cool. My strength training has done that for me. I do continue training during the season but I have to lighten up a little on the heavy weights.

softballers

I play softball up hear in Ontario Canada.
I found that doing alot of bench and tricep work increased my bat spead, and increased my hitting distance a great deal. The one thing that the will increase your overall ability to play is leg work.
Squats should comprise a major part of your leg program..Most of your powerhitting is generated by your legs.
I play D and C in tourney's and league and play 3 nights a week during the summer.

Nope not any military guys on our teams but hell the last tourney we played in there were 135 teams total and there are leagues here every single night in every single park available.... most have a waiting list to get a team in to play.

Hey I got a good place for you to go to and they are in the south check this link out:

http://www.mohrsoftball.com/

Lots of good info on bats..... tourneys..... playing in general.....check out the message boards......altho I must warn you they are family oriented so no bad language at all.

Wow--Congrats to you....You must miss it!!

Every once in awhile I miss the money, the comraderie, and treated like a king but then I remember that I sleep in my own bed every night, I get to watch my kids grow up, I get to coach their teams, I get to spend 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day doing what I want.

Positives and negatives in everything......and I left on my terms. My arm hurt like a bitch, my G'ma had just died, I was getting my marriage and family back in shape, and I didn't like being a barfly. I called my agent and told him to tell anyone that was interested in signing me that I wasn't interested in any minor league offerings and well........... Not one team fucking called LOL

So now I play a shitload of softball for my competitive juices and laugh my fucking ass off at some of these guys that think they are good.

It's never been about politics with me. I just don't want to fly all over the country playing in tourney's 2 times a month and having all the bullshit that goes with it and the pressure of winning or else.
Most of the A or Major teams act like every tourney is the World Series. Now I am competitive but the reason baseball wasn't fun for me anymore is because I was playing for a check instead of the fun of it.

That's why I play softball. Except now a lot of the leagues and tourneys you don't "have" to touch the bases just first. I say fuck that I want to jog around the bases that's why I hit it out of the park.

Be surprised what wrist curls and reverse wrist curls will do for your game too. I like to take the cables on my machine and do my swing motion for my tricep work....... Usually go back and forth with light one week and heavy the next.

I am with ya on the legs...... you get torque from the legs and hips and if you are strong enough you can power the ball out........ but it ultimately comes down to bat speed.

I am sure you have seen some big mofo's out there swinging their asses off and hit it like the are swinging a wet newspaper.

hey rudedawg.

you got a handle on mohrsoftball page. use to frequent his site alot even when to GT99
had a blast there is some big boys that played that year.

Yeah i have noticed that. when i use the overlapping double fist grip that increasing my forearm wrist strength would help me rotate my hands and bring the bat head through the zone a little faster.

You ever see Ray demarini bat speed video. that video alone help me put on some hitting distance
not to mention that he had one of the hottest bats going for awhile.

Sorry I posted 85 times in a row..... I love talking softball and baseball...........

What bat do you guys use?

I use a Worth 3DX or my relieable Worth ESTK (the purple one with the round knob so you can cheat down with your grip) Both of them are 34" 29 oz.

For the league we played in that we couldn't use double wall bats I used an Easton Redline C Core 34' 28oz.

Looking at getting a couple new ones here shortly....... my buddy that plays Major ball on the Easton team is suppossed to hook me up with some Company end loaded Connexion bats.

Yep I have seen that video. I read an interesting article in softball news or something like that about his bat speed........

When he used a 28 oz bat his bat speed slowed down after impact with the ball 3 - 5 mph.
But when he used a 26 oz bat it slowed down only 1 - 2 mph. So his philosophy was to use a lighter bat. Me personally I have it in my head that if I swing anything less than a 28 oz I will hit it over the third base dugout.

rudedawg.

I currently swing the EST black no + on the barrel or the 1st year easton connextion.
I have a 98 demarini but it doesn't get much use anymore it a 26 and now i swing a 28 most the time.
I studied his bat speed theory but started to think that even though i swung the 28 slower then the 26 i could carry more speed with the 28 once i hit the ball.
SO i stuck with the heavier weight and just got stronger.
Of course leverage is always good and i am 6'2" so these long arms can generate some decent swing speed on there own

yeah....my little league teams had names of pro teams too. Don't be feedin' us no bullshit about pro ball.

Ya but you didn't play little league for 8 years like I did. I was a STUD after the 3rd year.

EST for me

thanks for all the info guys.. Rude, I've seen Mohr Softball before.. thanks for the link though...

For the last couple of years I've been swinging Worth EST models.. first the black one, and my last two have been blue.. At the end of this Summer I went ahead and picked up the green one.. Initially had great pop, but unbelievably the handle broke off.. I'm in the process of sending it back and maybe I'll swing it a bit when I return to the States...

Great tips on the weight training.. No doubt legs are the key to your power... I was just curious to see if any of you guys just drop your training once softball season hits????

take care..

Nope. No way can you drop your training. Shit if I did that I would never train since we play almost 11 months out of the year here in AZ.

My first Worth ESTK dented on my first bomb I hit with it and continued to dent that whole tourney. I sent it back and got a brand spanking new one within a week. For durability tho I like the Worth 3DX..... carbon fiber. Although my first one of those got screwed up too. The outer shell came loose and you could spin it. Still had MEGA pop in it tho. Best single wall is the Easton Z Core......that bat feels like a baseball bat when you hit with it.

This might sound fucked to some of you but my bat speed is probably one of the slower of my whole team but my home runs are among the highest.

This is same for my swing in golf, I swing slower then most but hit it waaaay past these boys who swing for the fence and out of their shoes.

Speed is important but you gotta have it all together.

A person might swing harder then I do but they don't have the power through contact like myself.

Do you wear those stupid rabbit ears when you play?

Of course I do!!! I think they intimidate the other team.

I have them on right now pre-paring for the office X-mas party.

Nope doesn't sound fucked up at all.........I would say you probably have a long swing and are strong. But you still have to have some bat speed or club head speed to hit a ball any distance.

Hey DOT,

Just got back from the dr. and he said it is more than likely bursitis. Going to get an MRI next week hopefully and then see him in 3 weeks for a shot that numbs up everything in there and possibly some cortisone and see what that does.

This is fun shit.
