Even Rippetoe says a gallon of milk per day is better than steroids - especially for the novice trainee.

And just to put this into perspective, I (and many others like Dan John, Rip, Wendler, etc) consider a novice trainee someone who can't deadlift (no straps) 2x their bw, bench and/or OHP their bw, and squat 2x their bw. You might be able to do one or even 2 of these, but if you can't do all 3 YES, you are a novice.

Get past those markers, then consider some gear. And then only maybe.

So do like Radar says. Eat right, train hard, and spend as much time under the bar as you can.
