So what do u think about the social security crisis?

First off, it's not a crisis. So here we have Bush trumping SS like he did Iraq. Which sets my alarms off instantly. Will private accounts work? And screw the younger generations mentality of "It won't be there when I retire". Well you know what? My wife isn't that old, and for no more than she makes after figuring her taxes last night and seeing $1350.00 in SS deductions--it better damn well be there! Saying the aforementioned just gets everyone prepped for that belief--that way it wont be a big uproar when they pull the plug. And were you aware that the funds that are suppose to keep the current system solvent have already been borrowed and spent?! If the gov't is so fucking worried about it, perhaps they should've kept their hands off it! Just like my pension fund--the big boys stepped in and said we had too much, made us invest it(sound lke private accounts?) and guess what? A couple years later we all get a letter in the mail saying because of the recent stock market crashes our future benefits will have to be cut by 50% to remain solvent. And for SS bashers--be careful--this may not be such a great place with half the population homeless and broke. Might have to cap u and take ur caddy.

Its all an orchestration for Bushbarian butt buddies to attach our SS savings and assess a 2% management fee making them the richest people on the planet.

I hope they do it. I need a little more motivation to leave this country which sold its soul. Make sme sick....I used to really love this country. When it cared about more than the super rich.

The only crisis is that I still have to pay for it.

Im responsible enough to plan for my retirement. If youre not, then thats your fault.

True, but your a rarity. What would be better-50 million broke people ready to become career criminals and 1000 of you, or a social safety net? I agree/understand your point--but your never gonna get the other 95% of the population on the same page. This is more than about taxes and retirement, this is about keeping our country from resembling inner Mexico.

Jesus--1240am friday night andnim talkin 'bout ss. What a life. Oh well, at least I got some decent plans tommorow. Fuking cat, I smell cat shit.....

The SS issue really isn't that complex. We used to have way more people putting money in than taking money out and soon we'll have more people taking out than putting-in. It was setup as a ponzi scheme, like one of those chain letters where you send $1 to the person at the top of the list and pass the chain on. It works great till the scheme collapses and a broad group of people are left holding the bag.

Bush is trying to address the trainwreck, and like him or not if he can setup some kind of alternative then we may all benefit. My guess is that the ultimate solution will be allowing younger people to "earn out" of their social security obligation by continuing to pay-in for a limited time in exchange for waiving their rights to all benefits.

For example, you go to a 30 year old and say "Ok, keep paying SS taxes till you are 42, but if you'll wave your rights to all SS benefits, we'll leave you alone at 42 and you can put that money in your existing, viable retirement fund going forward."

WHAT country exist that the rich don't run it? Amazingly enough when you see AFRICAN leaders on tv. They are well dressed and live in the finest homes while the majority of the population lives in poverty. Don't fool yourself into thinking it's just here that the rich run things.

DREAM ON !! The thing about it SS is NOT GUARANTEED !! They take 14 cents on the dollar and you are NOT guaranteed to get it back. At least if they let me have me invest my money. I can get some of it back guaranteed.

I actually agree with you here.

The irresponsible would have no retirement funds true, but the smart would be able to invest those additional monies.

The problem is, YOUR money was promised to someone else 40-50 years ago. Even as we speak, someone from your grandchild's generation is being committed to paying you back.

See, you give $1 to the person who's name is at the top of the list, then you add your name to the bottom. That's how panzi schemes work! Just don't get left holding the bag...

Bush hitting this head on is 100% correct and a ballsy thing to do.

Say what you want.....frineds of Bush will pocket a management fee and become the richest men on the planet almost overnight.

But we all know that privately run investment companies are always straight up. No fraud in the investment business. Ever.

Contrary to what Bush, it would be solvent a lot longer than he says.
I calculated. I would be dead or close to death when it goes into red.
Even then, it would cover 75% of payouts.
It would be chump change for me anyway.

Typical liberal mindset.

They imagine everyone else is much dumber than they are and therefore they are entitled to control every aspect of your lives.

Worry about yourself, I'll gladly handle my own retirement future

Wasn't the idea to let people place the money in the investments they saw fit? I hadn't heard anything about a specific "privately run investment company" being required. What's the name of the company?
