So the E.R. doc said I am going to die......

if I continue to use anabolic steroids. For those of you that have read any of my recent posts, you know that I have been experiencing kidney pain off and on for the past year. It only seems to get really bad when I use high doses of winny. Anyway, I went to the E.R. the other day because the pain was getting too intense. After having all sorts of tests done, the doc tells me that there is no signs of anything out of the ordinary, not even blood in my urine which I have had in the past with this problem. So I tell him that I'm using anabolic steroids and he becomes really pissed off and starts telling me "I hope you know that if you continue using steroids, you are going to die", and "don't you know that they cause brain tumors, liver and kidney failure?". He continued to condemn me for a few minutes also ranting on and on about how dangerous they are. I didn't want to argue with him so I just listened.

Earlier, before this took place I was the last person called back, they even called an 8yr old girl with a mild temperature back before they called me. Here I am a 25yr old 225lb muscular man, doubled over moaning in pain, and they take all these other people that barely had anything wrong with them back before me. When I got back there, it took them 45 minutes after the doctor ordered it to give me pain meds!! Then I told them I needed more because I was still hurting, so the doc O.K.s it but I'm told that I have to get my ride on the phone so they can verify that I'm not driving, this is after they already gave me some. Why didn't I have to call in the first place!?!? So they make me walk, carrying my own I.V. bag, down to the other end of the E.R., when there were plenty of phones close to me, and make me call my ride. As soon as I pick up the phone, the male nurse starts to walk away, and I'm like "where are you going? If I get somebody on the phone, I'm not going to chase you all over the hospital". I can't get a hold of anybody, which shouldn't matter because I can't leave if they don't show up, I even conveyed this to the nurse and asked him why they couldn't just talk to the person when they got there. He told me that this was hospital policy, but that was B.S. because I've been in the E.R. a few times with pain problems and I've never had to do what they're asking me to do. So they won't give me any more pain meds, so I get pissed off and tell them I want to go home. I keep trying to contact my gf but she was at work because I didn't think I'd be out of there that fast. What a bullshit day. I went through all that for nothing, at least I found out that my kidneys weren't in any immediate danger.

I am appalled by how naive doctors are about juice. Thats not the only thing I'm pissed about though, those people were rude, and insensitive to my needs, not to mention incompetent. I'm sorry for the rant, but I was treated very shitty, and I just wanted to know if anybody knew who I could contact to complain about this. Do you contact the hospital administrator, or the health board, or what? I don't know who to complain to, and if it will even make a difference.

Fuckin' BRAIN TUMORS!!!! The guy was giving me a death sentence, yet I know people that are 60+ years old, that juiced for 20 years old, and are in great shape. Yeah, it is possible to die from excess juicing, but it usually has to do with your genetics, and you most likely would have died from a stroke or hearattack eventually anyway. All gear did was speed things up a bit. The other people that die from excess gear usage,(like my best friend) are usually using lots of other things that add complications. I'm really starting to hate this world.

he, in no way, can tell you otherwise. for his own peace of mind and liability. i'd take it easy if i were you though. i was a pretty heavy user but i never wound up in the ER because of it. i'd scale back on the dosages for a bit and see if it helps.

There are many doctors that are naive about a lot of things. I can recall a few times I've had idiot doctors misdiagnose me and tell me I was fine and to go home. Now adays, when I get an idiot doctor I just ask for a new doc or go to a different facility.

docs are like that.. I just came out of the emergency room myself and the docs blamed everything on my supplements. "Ephedrine and creatine is no good for you" "stop that stuff, look at me, I don't use anything"----> LOL when he said that I almost laughed, guy in his 40's slightly overweight telling me he doesn't use anything. Some docs just aren't educated enough on sport supplements so instead of researching, they condemn it as evil... Why bother explaining to them. Just smile and nod your head.

I know these fellas must've been geniuses in school or else they wouldn't be doc's, but some have no freakin common sense.

In HS I got hurt playing football, tried to walk it off but the next day its killing me so I go to the ER and they send me home, I went back to my regular physician 3X in one week before he finally sent me to an orthapedist who diagnosed it as torn knee cartilage and "growing pains", I tried to go to school the following week and collapsed at which time they send me in an ambluance to a different ER who tells me that the whole time my femur (thigh bone) was fractured and I needed emergency surgery.

Later I dislocated a kneecap and they told me I needed surgery - I said it feels fine and against orders I didn't show up for the surgery and it feels absolutely 100% today - they wanted to slice me up for no reason, I lost most of my trust in Doc's.

Actually, you don't have to be very intelligent to be a physician. You just have to be willing to put in the time and effort to get through med school. Making decent enough grades and having good test taking skills and being able to memorize facts doesn't make one intelligent. Same with any other specialized profession, like law for example. Our facination with labeling "professionals" as more intelligent than the rest is culturally imposed. Sociologist refer to it as the "Halo" effect. Basically we put these folks on a pedestal and attribute these glowing traits to them, whether they have them or not

You'll find that there are just as many imbeciles in the "professions" as there are in the general populace. We have met many a "professional" with their head up ther ass and the reasoning ability of a turd.

So, to the ER bro that started the thread. Sorry you had to endure the ranting of a moron. But, kudos to you for being the bigger man and letting it roll of your back !

by the way, the Dr's brain tumor remark was likely related to Lyle Alzado. Played for the Raiders then Broncos. Heavy AAS user. Constant cycles with no PCT back in the 70's. Died of a brain tumor or brain cancer, can't exactly remember. He went public and blamed it on anabolic abuse.

i dont think you can be pissed at the doc for telling you that..

maybe you can be mad at the hospital for some of the policies but the doc is doing the right thing.. you should quit roids.. i wouldnt just quit winny or 17a's i would quit everything!

and honestly what makes you think that you WONT die if you continue to use?

It would be understandable for them to be frustraited with anyone coming in there from abusing any type of drug, when you have other people who have problems they didnt give themself. But it still doesnt give them a right to treat you bad. I am sure the reason they are not very sympathetic to your problems is the fact that you are complaining of pain you are inflicting on yourself. Of course, the doctors are going to tell you to stop taking what ever your taking if its causing you problems, especially if your self medicating. Its like the old saying....a man goes to the doctors and says "my arms hurts when I do this", and the doctor replies "well then dont do that".

I explained to my doc a few years back that I was using AAS after some minor complications in my health. He listened, advised me that there is evidence that they are harmful, and told me to be careful. All in all, he was pretty understanding. He did make one good point though, being in good physical condition is not necessarily the same as being in good physical health. I.E. - while you may be 6'2'', ripped to the gills and stacked with muscle, your kidneys and liver may be shot all to hell (I'm not using you as an example Andro, just rhetorically speaking)
