So my new boss asked me to write my own job description

Sounds great. The one thing I'd consider doing (this is a double-edged sword) is to include a few metrics that are already-established company goals. For example, if your call hang-up rate is 12% and your goal for this year is 8%, include it in your responsibilities. Sure it commits you, but you know they'll raise hell if you don't meet the goal anyway. As a general rule, numerical metrics and goals raise the percieved importance of a role because managers have a built-in bullshit filter that kicks-in when all they see is "lead", "drive", "facilitate" and "support".

Yeah all the metrics are actually outlined in the performance goals section of my annual review. we have a performance management system we utilize and everyone in the company has goals which includes metrics used to measure as well as progress/status on the goal, etc. So those specifics are included there rather than in the job description which i believe is meant to be more of an overview. Also, metrics and performance goals and measures change from year to year potentially.

Good point. I'm used to GE where jobs last 18 months. You're up or you're out!
