God damn stupid facevatar site.

i posted this in another thread but it needed its own thread.

Whatever spyware/virus i have, it's very hard to get rid of.

-My desktop background automatically changed to something that looks like an advertisement saying "Run your antivirus software" with a couple of file paths.
-i got the blue screen of death a bunch of times
-After that, i ran Spybot/Adaware ,albeit dated versions and removed some stuff. Now i don't get the blue screen of death but my computer completely freezes after about 30 minutes of being on

Everytime i try looking/searching for some anti virus stuff it won't even link me in google. it'll link me to some spam shit. This has control of my whole computer, ahhh!

i tried AVG which is what arabian recommended but i can't find a link to download it.i can't connect to their main site (either because of this virus or because the site is down)

What's been going on CW? I saw you got a new job!! When do you start?

Download and install Malwarebytes:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

Power Anti-virus 2009?! - Yahoo! Answers

This thing is fixable, don't do anything desperate like reformatting and re-installing.

I avoid shareware - free to try, costs to keep.
Often they'll claim to have the solution to your problem, but you have to buy the program to fix the problem. Not sayin' that's true with Malwareytes, just sayin' don't be surprised...

Same thing happened to me. I went back to a restore point, ran some diagnostics and it cleared up. Good luck dude.

No, unlike Trend Micro, it doesn't do that.

This wasn't just a kneejerk recommendation, it's what people on other boards have used to successfully remove this particular nasty bug that's been going around.

1) backup your stuff (u should always be doing this)
2) try to restore to a day before shit started happening (if u can)
3) download every free antivirus, spyware program u can and try (links people included)
4) remove crap in control panel that is weird or just taking up cpu processing power or hd space.
5) update your windows using windows update
6) reinstal windows if u have to - and from hereon never dl crap that you don't really need. i only have legit commercial software on my work computer and that's it.
7) if u aint' got the time - take it to best buy/circuit city/guy on craigslist and pay them to "cleanup" your computer. remember to backup your important files.
