So, I finally went to the allergist....

after a 10 week wait to get an appointment, 10 minutes in the waiting room, 15 minutes with the doctor, 10 needles pricks, another 15 minutes in the waiting room, and yet another 10 minutes in with the doctor it's official.

I am allegric to everything, those below are the ones I can remember. All 10 shots blew up with dust coming out on top as the worst.

Dust
Dust mites
Animal dander
Pollen
Mold
Ragweed

My God - am I some sort of freak?
Felix Unger comes to mind.

As relieved as I am to know why I've been so miserable for so long I am curious - does anyone else have such freakish allergies?

NOPE, I don't, I live in Houston, TX, anyone with those problems would not exist in the conditions here.

I'm sorry to hear that you are so misreble, why don't you try surfing, it will totallly bring you out of your rut. I will be more than happy to show you how.

thats me :)

all seem like common 20th century allergies :)

so......what drugs did he stick ya on? :D

theres a fair amount of stuff you can do to try and prevent his stuff happening

naturally anabolic - Ok that makes me feel better

peyote Killa - I'm available to be kidnaped - should I forward a map?

Mrmuscle - I had been allergic to milk most of my childhood but it doesn't seem to affect me now (seem keyword). I don't believe he tested for them but I stay away from most migraine triggering foods anyway.

danielson - He gave me some Zyrtec-d to get me through the week and then once a week for 12 weeks he going to give me a shot based on his test findings and after that once a month.

yes you should. I'll come scoop you, then we will hit the beach, that will clear up any sinus problems, then we can go surfing, and after that I will take you to this little cafe right on the beach where we can get some good grub, and chill and just watch all the waves roll in.

Come nightfall, we can crash with the windows open so the sea breeze can fill my house (which is right down the street from the ocean)

I promise you will never want to leave, you will have the time of your life.

So get on it, and forward me that map!

sounds like an anti-histamine.....hope it helps

so do u find it hard to sleep due to allergies? dust on the sheets etc....i remember reading somewhere that freezing the bed clothes in a freezer killed all/most of the mites off

I´m allergic to everything (cats, dogs, dust, tree pollen, grass pollen...) but strangely i have no problems when i´m around my dog at all.

Hey ms.v.

The zyrtec should help with your allergy.:)

It helped my nephew and he had the same things as you.

7 months of so called *therapy*, approximately 40 shots, 218 zyrtecs I still feel like shit every day.

Could this possibly be normal?

Now add to that 1-3 migraine headaches for 2-4 days per month, being nauseous daily, always tired with brain fog (I'm am amazed I can spell my ownname) and a puffy near distorted face does not make for a particularly happy person.

See a doctor you say?

Sure, why not. Been there... did, done, still do that.
He/she just adds another prescription to my nightstand or tells me to come more often for shot. (By the time the back and blues heal on my arms the psycho nurse adds another pair of black and blues.)

I can count on one hand how many days I've felt good this year.

This can't possibly be normal nor any way to live.

What do I have to say to a doctor for them to understand that they are NOT helping me at all.

Funny you should say that Wodin........

I've actually considered that as it's certainly less messy than a gun to my head.

Sweet pea, it's time to find another doctor.

One that will help you, instead of just pushing pills at the problem.

Be well lady.

Lot less paper work involved too. :)

Corn....um...er....well.... ...ahem...

Vel, I think it is time for a different doc. It is not normal to feel like that and obviously he is not helping you. Maybe it is not allergy related or you have allergies and something else. It could be anything from sleep apnea to depression to hormone imbalance to lyme disease. You need someone who will look at other possibilities and make you better.

You need to see another allergist. Your doctor missed something. I was diagnosed with all of those allergies as a kid and received shots for 8 years. As I grew older, I began to "outgow" those allergies. I'm still allergic to those things and always will be, but not nearly as bad as when I was a kid.

I stopped getting the shots when they started causing severe headaches and constant drowsiness. Remember, they are injecting you with the stuff you are allergic too. It just seems that you're too old (please don't take offense) to just be developing those allergies now.

I think they missed something more severe that you're allergic to.

i seem to remember assplorer saying the same
thing...

something about amazing absorbability???

not 100% on that though...

You really may want to consider moving somewhere without the conditions. I *think* I have allergies as my nose is stuffed up most of the year; I've never bothered to go in and get checked though. Whenever I go soutwest, or even to Denver, it just dissappears. It sounds like you might be stressed out, etc... as well. Maybe a change would be good...

I grew up in this area, developed severe allergies, went to the doc.
Doc said, "well, you can either take shots for the rest of your life, or you can move every 7 years, cause you're the kind of person that develops allergies to whatever they're around a lot."
I've changed cities about once every 10 years since (for adventure), and the allergies went away.
I moved back to the same area 12 years ago and the allergies haven't returned, so maybe I've grown out of them.
Meanwhile, my brother had the same problem.
He stayed here, got rid of his wall-to-wall carpets, installed ceramic tile and wood floors (much easier to keep free of dust and pet dander) and his allergies are way better.

Sweets - This is the second time I have come across this product:

OPC3

A non-paid testimonial from a third party:

Dear Shay, I have found an all natural solution to my migraines!! I have been migraine-free since March of last year! I was introduced to OPC3 which is a powerful combination of 3 natural antioxidants--grape seed extract, pine bark extract, and red wine extract. I take it daily along with B12 and the combination has kept away the migraines that had plagued me since childhood. I have helped my sister-in-law beat her sinus headaches and a fellow teacher beat her migraines, too, with this wonder solution. I even asked my doctor about it and he has heard of this in one of his medical journals!!

Maybe worth a shot......BBBWWWWAAAUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

Hehehehehe...

um....

get it??

"shot"

hahahahaha

hahahah

hah

ah....

ok - feverfew - I think you know/have tried this b-4:

Feverfew is a common-or-garden herb which has grown unwanted in many people's gardens; but has been commercially cultivated in the British Isles and Europe during the past fifteen years. Many people who have suffered from migraine claim to have benefitted from taking Feverfew. Some have found that they don't need to take it continually - a course of up to three months duration will leave them migraine-free for long periods of time before they have to take more Feverfew

TESTIMONIAL:

I'll start by saying the important bit: After suffering for many years with migraines they have now stopped since I started taking feverfew in tablet form. Could this help other migraine sufferers as well?

Feverfew is a herb, latin name 'tanacetum parthenium', that has an anti-flammatory action. It is known to help reduce the symptons of rheumatic and arthritic problems and, more importantly to me, reduce the frequency and severity of most migraines.

The plant itself is easy to grow and has white daisy like flowers, the part used for 'medical' purposes are the leaves.

For complete self help the leaves can be picked and eaten (usually two per day). There are two problems with this:

(1) They have a very bitter taste, so are not very palatable. The leaves can be eaten between bread to mask the flavour. This does not reduce the effectiveness.

(2) The plant is herbaceous and so dies off in winter - no more leaves!

To combat these problems I take feverfew in tablet form. The brand I use is made by Herbal Laboratories and has a brand name of 'Tanacet'. (I have no financial interest, just in case you are wondering). I buy my tablets from a normal health shop.

I have been taking two 125mg tablets per day for about eighteen months and can honestly say that my migraines have virtually ceased. I have had the odd headache but nothing very serious in comparison to previously. Any migraine sufferers will appreciate what this must mean to me. No more nasty drugs and the such like. Before taking feverfew I had taken all of the usual remedies without success, including various tablets prescribed by my doctor. Nothing ever worked.

Feverfew isn't an 'instant' remedy. It takes a few weeks to get into the system. After a couple of weeks my migraines became less severe and gradually stopped.

I would add that after taking the brand mentioned for a few months I did try some cheaper feverfew tablets. Unfortunately my migraines returned. I went back to the Tanacet brand and they stopped again.

I would recommend that you try feverfew if you are a migraine sufferer. You never know, it may work for you as well. It's worth a try.

Advantages Disadvantages

Cures migraines Cannot be used if pregnant

*note - disadvantage of feverfew
