As much as I think it's geigh to make a double post (post same thing on more than one board) Im going to do it here since this is important, and no one better say shit about it. ok here goes:

Now that I have a REAL 40/wk job where I cant split early to go workout, I have to come up with a plan to get in some workouts otherwise Im going to end up looking more and more like rosie odonnell as the days pass by.

I currently wake up at 6:30am and leave my house at 7:30am for work. I get off at 5pm and I get home by 5:45 or 6. At which time i sit down and do homework with teh boy and cook dinner for Lumberg who gets home around 7:15-7:30pm. I start getting my son ready for bed ~8:00pm which entails showering him, reading to him and all that so he can be in bed at or around 8:30pm (its hard to make this happen so it's sometimes closer to 9pm). After he goes to bed, I have like an hour to read or watch some tv or whatever then we go to the bedroom and have teh sex and go to sleep.

Looks like the only real option for a regular workout (Im thinking 3 times during the week for this particular schedule) would be for me to get up at the buttcrack of dawn ~5am and head to the gym at that time. As long as I can be back at 6:30am or 6:45am even to start getting ready, I think this could work out. But, the gym is about 10 min away (Im assuming little to no traffic at 5am). So, If i wake up at 5am, leave by 5:10 and arrive at the gym by 5:20, start working out at 5:25 that gives me until about 6:20am to workout which, at best is 55 min of workout time. This includes lifting and also cardio afterwards (as much cardio as I can fit in until it's 6:20am and I have to leave).

Does anyone else here get up at insane hours to get a workout in before going to work? YLifter and WODIN do I think.

I wonder how cheery Ill feel at 5am though and if i will even be able to do it.

I use to get up at 4:30 to have my pre-workout meal before lifting (3 days a week). Your body gets use to it. Also, cardio breeze helps ALOT. Now one of my lifting days is on a day I can sleep in a bit so, I get up at 5:15/5:30. The other day is on a weekend (because of work, school and starting a project I had to discontinue a program and just workout to maintain strength until school ends).

You have to do what you have to do.

smurfy, i think a home gym would be in your favor...i think one could do a lot with a quality rack and a bow flex for accessory exercises

damn, so you totally get up at the buttcrack of dawn eh? All these years of training, Ive never had to do that. I did used to get up early to do taebo before work but I was also training ina gym 12 hrs a week too. obsessed

I've done 6:0 am workouts but only for a short while and stopped when I no longer needed to. Get into the habit and you won't even notice the time after a while. Make it five days a week and you can devote two of them to cardio.

Smurfy I get up around 5 to do my first workout of the day which is and hour of cardio. I am sure you can do it too! :qt:

ok well Lumberg has an entire room full of bars, plates and a power rack and a bench and DBs. the point is that I am a pile of lazy poop and I need to EXIT the home in order to actually workout. I cant get myself motivated enough to do anything inside the home. I need the gym environment.

for me personally, i can never workout in the morning... i like to eat mulitiple times before i lift, i feel weak if i don't. fuck you got all that weigh equipment staring you in the face and you don't use it? damn lumberg needs to smack that ass

Take some time for yourself and go after work. Can you take the kids? Does the gym have a daycare? Life sux when you're too busy to workout.

well the equipment we have is crunched into the computer office downstairs and there is so much stuff around that there is literally not enough room. Cant even get to the rack, its loaded with shit bveing stored underneath. the room is too small.

the gym i go to does not have childcare. besides, there wouldnt be time after work b/c i need to sit down with my son and do homework, and then cook dinner so Lumberg can eat when he gets home from work. Time seems so limited these days. I had a lot more freedom previously

Let Lumberg cook his own damn dinner. You've got enough to do. I'll never ask anyone to cook for me. I've been doing it myself for the past 7 years. :)

well, you should have though about this before you had kids and got remarried

I get up at 5.. some days... and go after work others.. but do u have free weights at
home? and some sort of cardio machine.. assuming you do cardio
Could minimize some of this travel?

Woman read my post you can get up that early I do suggest having something light to eat so you can actually lift some decent weight I know I am weak as all hell in the AM and can only manage cardio.

When I use to work a 60 hr. week. I would come home and workout in the garage twice a week. I had everything I needed. I was married at the time, so the ex-wife would take care of my very young daughter while I worked out.

Does that Bally's open that early???

If childcare is an issue, FF on 355 has daycare. I know it definitely opens at 5:00am.

Having kids puts a whole new twist on things, but my job's close enough to where I'd run there in about 20 min. I started at 5 so I'd have to get up at 4am, and I work til 4:30pm so didn't always feel like working out afterwards. But now I start at 7am so that's a little better.

I'd say to try it both ways, finding some time to work out after you get home for a week, see how it goes, then try the morning routine for a week and see which works better. It'll obviously have to be either or. If you can manage to get to bed by 10 and sleeping the morning thing shouldn't be too bad, plus it'll get you ready and revitalized for the day (and practically an empty gym :) ). It takes discipline but I think morning workouts are a good way to go, especially if you're tired at the end of the day.

thanks you guys for all your responses. i only really need to do this 2-3 times per week as I can workout anytime on the weekends (saturdays and sundays, maybe even friday nights).

I used to work out at 5am for 3 years. Then I said fuck that shit and started working out at 8pm.

I don't envy that :( I have tried super early workouts but they always were low energy and intensity.. I felt like a zombie.. not to mention I was ready to pass out around 8pm at night.. forget about teh sex, it'll never happen on that schedule!

I have a home gym (free weights) so I don't need to go anywhere for that. & I do that most of the time either befor esupper, or around 20:30. I get up at 05:00 about 4 days per week to do cardio.

Tad of oatmeal with a small whey shake.

or tod of oatmeal.

or Henry.

Ralph?

It's hard to go to the gym early at first but it's SO nice. I swear it is the best way to start out the day (other than early morning loving).

you can do it. who needs sleep. fight the fat. for lummy

cook/work/take care of the kids/workout that's a good girl! good job lumberg!

Here's a pic of my gym.
Note my golf bag in the middle of my home made rack. Haven't even painted it.
I have an incline bench & D.B.'s to 70 lbs. Plates to 400+ lbs.
Works for me.

doesnt lummy have a power rack in his house?

if by workout u mean weights, just do ur sets while making dinner or help the boy between sets and he acn work on his own while ur doing ur sets
It's good math work for the boy. Have him figure out the plates you need for a given weight.

Smurfer, if you lack the motivation to use the home-gym equipment (I know how that feels) I have serious doubts about you waking up for any considerable lenght of days at 5:00am...

You will be FA better off setting your little training corner with the stuff you need and setting 45 mins aside JUST FOR YOU... let people know that unless aliens are coming off the sky not to fuck with you during your 45 sacred mins.

You might try and get 30mins of cardio in the morning, but winter is coming, so whatyagonnado?

This is true. Nobody bothers me during my workout. Well, except for the wife. She will sit on the stairs & wait until I'm done a set before trying to talk to me. Wait, she did interrupt me once. I was doing my first warmup set of flat benches when she came down & sat on me & asked if I wanted to do some cardio. :p I let that one go. ;)

3 Days a week... Friday night, Sunday (prefferably night, but anytime Sunday) and Wednesday. Maybe Lumberg could have leftovers for one night (Wednesdays). There's your 3 days at the gym.

I do it every day ... 5 am. Working out is that important.

well this thread pretty long so this could be a waste of a post but....
I use to get up before work drive to the gym and workout before work.It takes time to adjust to the hours but you will find your got a bit more energy in the am then the pm//Plus you get what you want out of the day and if you slack at work who the hell cares! Lifes about your needs not some job thats only see's a body,no company realy gives a shit about you..Why i work for myself now! Live for you not for a pay check! GL

ive do it and get great results. working out in the am really fires up my slack ass metabolism and i get leanier if i eat the same diet.

i wake up at 5am and eat some fruit and drink some whey maybe some caffeine and i have no problems. once im properly motivated and i realize that to accomplish my goals i need to workout in the am.

also im more at ease w/ myself the rest of the day knowing i toughed it out and woke up super early just to work out. each meal feels better as well like i already earned it.. i got issues..

I have no clue what this thread is about, but, here are my answers:

1) no

2) I have never worked out any time other than the early morning. It is fantastic. I wake up at 5am, go to the gym, get home and eat, then head to work. I am awake and energized while everyone else is tired at work. I already have a sense of accomplishment and I am all around happier. Plus, I stay late at work a lot, so no worries about missing the gym if I am here too late. The only downfalls: no time for a meal an hour or so before lifting and around 5pm you (mentally) feel like you haven't lifted that day. The gym is empty too, which is always a good thing.

Thrice) Yes

IV) Only when nobody is looking.

I get up early for AM cardio, that's it. Weights in the AM woud be tough for me
