Snowboarders, is this a good package?

I went snowboarding for the 1st time Saturday and loved it. Only took me an hour before I could go down the slope without falling and could stop standing up.

I want to purchase equipment so that I don't have to bother with the crappy stuff they rent you.

Would this be okay for a beginner? Any suggestions would be appreciated too.

Come on, I know some of you fatasses snowboard.

Beachbum, Hardrock, where you at?

its a decent set up but im betting after a season or two you will outgrow that board,id look into a more advanced set up,maybe a lamar slayer or reaper,im picking one up and its considered a advanced set up ,and ill be paying about 350 cdn minus the boots,so its about the same prices after you bought boots for a much better board.

but if you dont plan to ride much, only a few times a year then stick with that set up,it just seems to me like you will progress fast in this sport since your already not falling

yeah, man it's good stuff. if you're not looking for the pimp shit stuff that package is great. How tall/weight are you? My guess the 159cm board would fit right (also the same size I ride).

So I could get a better board with those shoes and bindings for about the same price you think? I want to stay under $400 if possible.

I'm 5'-9" 175 lbs.

Would you recommend a freestyle or freeride board? I am going to want to do fancy stuff eventually.

aap are you still dating the girl who's against physical contact?

lmao! that sounds so funny but it's sad that it's true.

Since you asked, I called her Wed. about going out. She said her only free day was Thurs. I said ok. She called back 30 min. later and said she had to bake a cake she forgot about (no i am not kidding). I laughed and said ok.

At this point I wasn't going to call her anymore because I think she is making crap up and isn't interested. So I go the whole weekend doing my thing not thinking about her for a second.

Then yesterday (Sunday) she calls me. I see her number on the caller ID and I'm thinking "hell yeah, she realizes I don't need her and now she wants a piece of alien amp pharm". So I answer and she proceeds to ask me a question about a Christmas tree. No mention of hanging out or anything. Just a stupid question about a fucking Christmas tree.

I couldn't possibly make this stuff up. My luck is just that bad apparently.

im buying this set up for 300cdn minus boots so you can def get a better deal then that, rossignol is just a big name with big prices

as for length, the weight rating is more important then length, but I go for a board around my chin and I can do everything I need to from park to back country.

That setup looks pretty badass!

I may copy you and get the same. I want to be cool too.

One last question...if I wear an 11 boot, do I get a medium or large binding?

i believe mine are 11's and large, not 100 % since its been a few years,id try and buy it in person not over the net as you can try things on etc to get a good fit overall

That is a better setup... It will last you longer as you get better.

And you will want a large binding for sure with size 11 boot... no question about that. I don't know if you could fit an 11 boot in a medium binding. Also, with a boot that size, you need to make sure the board doesn't have too much sidecut or else your toes will drag... most boards will still be fine though...

OH... by the way... some mountains here in Colorado got 6 FEET of powder in November alone...

Just to tease those who don't call the rockies home...

;)

EDIT: a copy of todays' snow report from Copper Mountain resort...

Over 100 inches so far this season - three more inches over night and more than three feet in the last week. November was the snowiest opening month in 23 years. It all adds up to incredible snowriding for every level of skier and rider on the mountain today.

Well, I have a small ass apartment, so no extra rooms. I always have an extra futon for when friends are too inebriated to drive ho..... errr... when they need somewhere to crash for a night.

I hope someone will be enjoying all that snow, I'll be studying for finals all weekend... :bawling:

Check it bro www.neversummer.com best in the biz

I would not buy that set.

Very basic/beginner.

Its good for a season, MAYBE two.

What I suggest is to continue renting when you go, but rent "demo" packages.. sometimes cost more but basically you are evaluating different brands and products.

I did just like you, I went once, then bought a $400 package. Then the NEXT year I bought a $1000 package once I knew what I liked.

Rossignol is not a great snowboard brand, they are more of a ski brand.

For snowboarding the top brands in my opinion are Forum, Ride, Drake (bindings) and some Burton stuff.

Don't be afraid to mix and match stuff, here is what I have:

Forum Destroyer board 2004 ~400
Drake bindings ~220
32 Boots ~200

Holy crap that stuff gets expensive! I think I am going to stick with average quality stuff until I know for sure I will get my money's worth.

What kinds of questions did she have about Christmas trees? They don't seem that confusing.

She asked if I knew of a certain kind that isn't the typical Christmas tree because they want to get a real tree this year and her dad is allergic to the typical trees.

I told her I had one she can shove up her arse.
Well not really but I wanted to tell her that.

Ummm....did you lead her to believe you were some sort of expert on pine?

I suppose she thought a guy that carries a huge log between his legs would know all about wood.

better to RENT then to buy average stuff.. trust me man.

Everyone told me the same thing but I didn't listen at all! I bought a whole setup for $400 and it WORKED sure.. but it was nothing near what I really wanted.. I didn't know what I wanted when I bought it.

I just sold that $400 setup for $150 though.
