Ok well if you had to choose one My current routine consists of smith machine squats (yuk), stiff leg deads, extensions, and ham curls. Also some seated leg press if I don't feel I worked hard enough followed by calf work. I just want enough muscle stimulation to prevent me from exhibiting a bad case of chicken leg syndrome
Out of those 2 options I would go with smith machine, I agree with spatts, smith machines are the devil, but are still more likely to cause growth than a leg press. Can you rig up anything that you can squat out of? When I used to train at home I would turn the hooks around on the bench press and raise them up as high as they would go, and use that to squat out of.
what's wrong with snatch deadlifts on a podium or block?
or Reverse lunges, what about dumbell squats, split squats, single leg squats, barbell hacks etc etc, there are lots of things you do with free weights
