i have been on and off sleep meds for roughly a year now, being prescribed meds such as ambien, klonopin, and now lunesta. i am worried about what will come of using these drugs down the line. when i use them i am groggy during the day but am productive and able to work out and go to work or study and do great, but when i get no sleep i am a wreck. when i get off of them i get rebound insomnia. i feel like im addicted to them now. i dont take anything during the day, have never gotten high in my life, and ahve barely ever drank. i dont want to be a junky but i also want to get my sleep too. any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated in that i just need some other people to talk to me about this and offer me advice or experiences. thanks guys.

Have you been to s sleep clinic? I have sleep apnea, although different from insommia, I can feel your frustration with regards to bad sleeps. I never get a solid nights rest. I've been to 2 sleep studies which gave me an idea as to what was going on when I sleep or at least try to sleep. Ask your doc to refer you to one.

i had insomnia and now formed sleep apnea!!! i can be wicked tired but still not be able to sleep. i was taking ambien for awhile and became addicted...the shit put me right out. i always felt rested the next day with ambien too. i ran out and now i'm up all night again!!! maybe you're just anxious and could benfit from something like paxil or serequil (anything to calm your nerves) check with the doc and see what they think. things to avoid: tv, computer, sugar, video games or other stimulants one hour before bed.

Check this thread here, although I'm sure you've tried them all.

What you may want to do is talk to your physician about getting a referal to a sleep clinic, or a counselor/psychologist----it worked for me.

I was positive I had some wacked out sleep disorder, and the chronic insomnia was draining every aspect of my life. Once I started talking to someone about it, the trigger(s) were figured out. Stress can be a nasty, nasty thing for the mind and body.

I did try zopiclone for a week.....and bro, if you can, don't go back. They work too damn well---the psychological addiction grabs you fast, as you know. After one week, I flushed the rest down the toilet. I had enough shit to deal with, and addiction wasn't going to be added to the list.

Good luck! :supercool

I have had sleeping problems in the past. The best natural thing that worked for me was washing dowm a valerian root capsule with kava kava tea, followed by a 3mg sublingual melatonin tablet.

Prescription sleeping aids, while necessary in some cases, can be addictive. Stay away from them if you can.

When i was on testostrogain and zma, the zma actually did help my sleep. Not big time, but it definitely helped. 3 caps 30 mins before bed. Now i can't afford the shit and can't sleep again. Sleeping pills don't even work for me. Must be stress/anxiety. I need help too man. Every 3 or 4 days I might get one good nights sleep, simply form not sleepin the prior nights, but it still falls short, i feel shitty all the time. I try working as hard/fast/long as i can (construction) so i can hopefully pass out quick after work. That doesn't always work, usually tired right when i get home, but by the time i eat, shower and get to bed, i just toss and fucking turn. Can't get shit out of my workouts. I know i should talk to my doc, but can't afford the prescriptions, and don't want to get addicted to that shit, then i'll surely be fucked. Good luck bro...sorry i don't know what to say, just on here cuz, well...i can't sleep. this blows.

Try picking up a magnesium supplement, and a zinc supplement. Both are cheap, and really, that's all ZMA is.

The magnesium causes muscle relaxation, and some people geta deeper sleep with it. I tried a bottle once and yep--slept like a baby.

There's a thread somewhere on this board about the type of magnesium you need to find---something about having to have the type not bound to calcium.

Perhaps .... stress? You may be a person with high standards pressing themselves to excell. Maybe your nervous system is overloaded.

There is a form of acupuncture that enables you to release this tension and come down. You learn to finally relax and this great weight seems to be lifted off your mind. Then .... sleep comes in its natural pattern.

I did this with some success. Now ... I take a bit of melatonin and go through a body relaxation routine .... and sleep well. Before .... 2 hours at a stretch if I was lucky.

I don't know where you are, but many health plans now offer this. Larger universities with hospitals have clinics for this. Perhaps you can Google and find this.

Good luck.

i would definitaly stop taking the sleeping pills....they can be very addicting...try speaking to your doctor about other ways then just meds.....at night a few hours maybe like 2 hours before it is time to go to bed turn off all radios,t.v's,bright lights....lay down and try reading or just laying there...try taking hot baths with relaxing salts in it.......just a few ideas....you dont want to keep taking the meds and you dont want to over stimulate yourself.....
