Skullcrushers

Does skullcrushers put a lot of stress anyone elses elbows? It's been a few months since i've done them but i did them the other day and i felt a lot of pressure in my elbows. At first, they hurt throughout the set but getting towards the end of the exercise, the didn't hurt the first 5 reps but the last few hurt again. I do incline skullcrushers btw.

Are there any other variations or maybe different exercises i can try? besides skullcrushers, i do cable pushdowns (i think thats what they are called), overhead DB extensions (i think also), and dips.
 
dumbells are great, cuz you can rest them at the bottom and explode up. makes for good power in the bottom position in pressing movements. try bringing the bar more towards the top of your head, too. not as much tension on your elbows in that manner.

exactly what I was going to say. i aim for at least the hairline if not higher and the strain is gone.
