Skullcrushers: EZ bar VS straight

cmdubs

New member
I've ALWAYS used the EZ bar for skulls.

I was wondering if using the straight bar would be better since the hand placement is different, not angled.

Just looking for different ways to hit the tri's since mine suck ass :redhot:

Thanks for reading.

well considering most ppl feel pain in the wrists when doing skull crushers with a cambered bar, i cant imagine doing them with a barbell.

oh btw how much do the straight bars weigh that ppl use on preacher curls? not the actual barbell.

I use the EZ bar for them, easier on my wrists.

If you want to really hit your triceps try elbows out extensions/tate press. They are one of the best ways I have found to build strength in my triceps.

using the straight bar for skulls with hurt your wrists. you can always try it and see.

i agree on the wrist comment. tried em once with straight bar and it hurt so bad i couldnt do a full rep.

I think I know what you're talking about. Those are done with db's right? Lay on your back like you're doing skulls except elbows flared??

Very good exercise for improving the bench and adding overall thickness and power to the upper arm.

Yeah, this thead has a couple pictures that show you the lift, as well as other ways to increase your tricep strength.

tate press

Thanks for the feedback guys and gals. I think I'll try it, see how my wrists feel, and go from there. Gonna give those Tate Presses a try for sure, thanks for the link Big4life.

Been struggling with my tri's for the last few months. CG bench has always been a staple, followed w/ skulls and pushdowns. I get stronger, but my arms don't grow much.

one more question then,

i saw some huge all american guy at my gym on an incline bench with dumbells

the two dumbells were PARALLEL to each other at his chest and at the top of the rep

meaning, they both are next to each other longwise

not like normal benching, i think its basically close grip incline dumbell presses?

After shoulder surgery my physical therapist showed me these, as they keep a lot of stress off your shoulders. I still do them for flat bench.

thanks man, so do they primarily do chest then? the two dumbells are held parallel to each other so it almost looked like a close grip bench.
