This right here is where all collections should go if we are to regain our essential freedoms.
Dear John,
When the President secretly authorized the National Security Agency to spy on Americans, he broke the law and violated the Constitution.
The question is what are you and I going to do about it?
At the ACLU, we are speaking out and fighting back. Won't you help?
We've already started running a series of hard-hitting ads. The two that have run already compare George W. Bush to Richard M. Nixon and have the White House on the defensive, with Press Secretary Scott McClellan fielding questions from the press based directly on our ads.
We've only just begun. You can help us place ads all over the country - by making a donation to support our advertising campaign and all of our efforts to curtail the Bush Administration's abuse of power.
We are calling for an independent investigation at the highest levels of government and working hard to tell the public that the President broke the law. We need to get the message out - but we can't do it without your help.
I urge you to act immediately and help us send a powerful message to mobilize Americans everywhere. Our leaders must hear from every corner of the land that it is long past due to stand up to a President and Administration that places their actions above the law.
And feel free to forward this email to anyone you know who cares about democracy, freedom and American liberties. If they agree, tell them to keep passing it on. Only an informed and outraged public will force Congress to reject President Bush's illegal and unconstitutional actions.
Sincerely,
Anthony D. Romero
Executive Director
