Skinned shins from DLing

Anyone else ever had this problem? And is there any resolution short of strapping metal rails to my shins while I deadlift? It seems that every time I do it I get a new little cut which isn't that bad, except that they have built up to the point that I have scrapes all over my shins.

this is one of the reasons I deadlift 3 weeks in a row, then take a week off. In the off week I do hypers and shrugs instead.

Yeah bro wear that shit with pride. I love the looks I get on the way to the water fountain when blood's running down my legs.

You think you have it bad? I'm deadlifting once a week and doing cleans from the floor twice a week and usually also clean the bar up for my overhead pressing.

When I was just deadlifting, I'd get an occasional week when I wouldn't scrape and my shins would get a chance to heal. These days, almost every gym visit is taking an extra bite out of them. want2bbeast has suggested using duct tape and I think that might be tha way to go.

Like the others have said, it shows everyone that you do real lifts.

I have been thinking about this one a lot ... while blood running down my legs is cool... well I could do with out it.

Here are my ideas:

1) teflon tape (plumbers tape) wrapped around the bar where your shins are likely to hit. This would be temporary, would come off easily and not leave a residue on the bar for others to be annoyed by.

2) Teflon cleanroom tape... semi-permanant would leave some residue wehn removed.

3) A piece of plastic tubing a little shorter than the width between your grip, with an inner diameter that is slightly larger than the bars diameter... probably would have to be thin and split lenghtwise so it could slip over the bar.

Then there are things you can do to your shins...

1) duct tape (shave first!)
2) long socks - a little added friction I suspect
3) sweat pants (maybe could catch and also give a little added resistance)
4) Shin guards... probably a bad idea as you would not want anything that could catch on the way down... bad... very bad.

Any other ideas?

Any body tried any of these?

I keep forgetting on deadlift day as it only comes up ever three weeks in my rotation... so my shins continue to be "trophy-ized"

Peace,

if you're gonna use duct tape, shave your legs. it would hurt like hell ripping that shit off your shins!

I guess I'm lucky. The bar I use is fairly slick. I get an occasional bruise, but no cuts or scrapes. I guess if I was tearing up my shins real bad, I'd probably use 3) A piece of plastic tubing a little shorter than the width between your grip, with an inner diameter that is slightly larger than the bars diameter... probably would have to be thin and split lenghtwise so it could slip over the bar.

What's the old phrase - 'No Pain No Gain'? Maybe this is what was really meant by that (?).

Maybe you could try using the barbell pads people use for squatting. I've seen it called "pussy pad" in these forums. Maybe that would apply here. Just kidding. You could cut it to size if needed to fit just inside of your grip. I don't know how long they are.
