i used to skate for fun back in the day til i tore my acl. shit was so fun...i used to compete but i havent been able to in like 8 years because of my acl. anyone here ever skate? fuck i miss it.

mark do you have a shark? loloolol

I used to skate when I was 15 - 20ish. Every day for hours on end. Me and a few buddies were sponsored by a small local shop, but nothing big. That was the greatest athletic time of my life - better than all the "normal" sports I had ever played. When you were on, it was like you were operating in another world. Conversely, when you were off....well, the board may get smashed in half.

Good times tho. I've put my deck thru a few store glass doors by accident in my day too.

I used to skate, all through my middle school and high school years. I loved it. It was my life. What I regret is that I let the skateboarding comsume me and I turned down other sports, like playing football. I had coaches in H.S. trying to get me to play football, but I just wasn't into it at the time. Who knows how far I could have gone if I would have played some other sports? Obviously, the coaches trying to get me to play saw some sort of potential. I finally gave up skating once I got big enough (from lifting) that I started breaking boards (without trying) way too often, which was about my senior year of H.S....

Now, I just snowboard. Although, it must be funny seeing a 250# snowboarder on the slopes when most other snowboarders on the mountain weigh like 100# less than me... Just ask JuicedPiggytails, he's seen it. Doesn't matter, I guess. I love it. I've been snowboarding now for ~14 years.

In 1990 I made myself a long-board skateboard out of two planks of plywood and some old trucks and wheels which I used to cruise down the hill everyday to check the surf. It didn't look very cool, a long rectangular plank of wood with wheels, but it worked. You could walk it and hang ten off the nose.

i love sk8ing and sk8 culture, though i have little to do with either anymore
kids now in days are so sick with nollies and switch riding
i still have a board that i driveway fuck around on, but i can barely land a kickflip anymore

its sick seein 12 year olds do switch 360 flips nowadays. when i used to ride a nice sized switch kickflip was considered amazing. i never did my first rail til i was like 16. kids now are doin that shit at like 11.

i never had the stones to hit any rails
takes big balls to ride rails, lotta hurt can happen.
proly my dopest move was a backside k.flip down a few stairs
simple for sure but it looks fuggin badass/
youtube mark appleyard for some sick footage

I used to skate way back in the day. I've still got my Vision Jinx with independents and slimeballs.

I was never a huge rail and stairs guy. Lots of curbs and random street work (probably got as high as 4-foot curbs). Lots of grinding, decent at kickflips.

Zoo York had the best boards out there.

yeah me too.
parking lots, parking curbs, little launch ramps, etc.
at the time it was as hardcore as my town would allow
now in days even in po-dunk michigan i see kids ripping 50-50 grinds down 8 stair rails
that sport has def elevated the level of nuts required.
imagine trying to step to a rail now in days, we'd seriously injure ourselves
but the balla skaters get up and do it again.
props

When I was walking thru SD the other night I found a great condition deck (no trucks or wheels). I tried kickflipping it and think I now have a hernia. :(

shit man watching eric koston is still my shit. ill watch old girl videos like mouse. he did shit switch just as good as regular. fuckin switch backside blunts down rails perfectly.

I still have two issues of Skateboard World from July/August 1980. I never got much vert but I had an awesome 85 degree ramp in our driveway. I got plans for it from a magazine and took it to a home construction to look for scrap wood. The workers took the plans and built it for me in like 20 minutes.

Koston was the man.

Jesus, I had the ugliest pair of baby blue Etnies back in the day, just to be a dick. Vallely was insane too, although I wasn't a big vert dude.

That's actually how I got into a lot of underground hip hop, thru skate vids. Best music ever was found in those vids.
