Size and strength

Well I was lifting today doing barbell curls. My last set I end repping out 125 until I cant lift any longer. Now I am not small and dont have small arms but this guy next to my had arms bigger then mine but barely could get up 95lbs. Is that just genetics? Or is it just muscle maturity? Damn do I want 21 inch arms one day.

the amount of weight you lift is somewhat irrelevant to the size{Of course it matters to some degree}....Its more about form and calories.

Genetics rule. Size and strength are not hand in hand.

We sponsor a 143 pound female who owns the world record of a 430 pound bench. And she's hot. Tell me that's not genetics.
How is that possible. I just don't understand it. Truly amazing.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM..........I have dreams about Kara bench pressing me.

Too bad her b/f would kill us all with one swat of his bear paw. :chomp:

I used to have a workout partner that I outweighed by a good 70 pounds. Little bastard could outlift me on military and bench. Makes ya feel like shit lol. But yeah it happens.

Great progress, yes genetics plays a huge part. I am doing reps with 140's, but thats not alot considering I weigh 280lbs.

Your kidding me, thats awesome.

being large or small boned could play into this as well, ive always benched more than guys who looked much bigger than me, im small boned and dont look that big, still at 195 i dont look big really for 6'

Well I am stocky as hell. My genetics are good and bad. Usally stocky guys bench a lot due to short range of motion and a frame built for pressing. Not me. I have long arms for a short guy and my chest always was my weakpoint. Although I dont make HUGE gains fast the muscle I get stays. Its a love/hate relationship.

right you are.

P.S. Kara Bo. kicks ass :garza:

I know a few guy that have great size that have some of the most unorthodox ways of training that I've ever seen. One guy in particular I know does almost every body part on cables-reps of 30+ 5-10 sets per exercise. It blows my mind cuz all he cares about is the contraction. He looks like he'd bench press a house but I bet he'd get buried laying under 315 lbs. Of course he takes a great deal of juice and gh, so his Rx program may compensate for where his workouts are lacking???

ive wondered the same question. I can out lift some of the big guys, but they look better than me. how does that work?

same here.. i'm a lot stronger than i look and a lot stronger than a lot of the 'bigger' guys i see in my gym.. dont forget, form/technique can significantly increase the amount of weight you move with expending the same energy - for this is the reason that powerlifters are constantly perfecting their squatting/benching/deading technique.. one tweak can add 50 lbs if you know how to use your body correctly...

in the end, technique will allow more weight and more weight will allow more muscle stimulation/growth. keep rockin on :)

genetics rule all.

I always see guys smaller than me benching more in the gym. But they don't always use the strictest of form (1/2 reps too) and grip as wide as humanly possible. Who knows.

Then I remember... they don't deadlift, and I could out pull them

I have a younger bro that's strong as hell and looks like a string bean, although he's put on a good 20-30 pounds since I told him to eat everything and anything, and not to nit pick like I do sometimes (dieting).

At around 115lbs I put him on a bench and kept increasing it... he benched his weight, untrained... too bad I didn't get his tendon strength, little bastard, lol

i do alot of 21s and railroads that has help me curl alot of weight! i curl 155 lbs everytime we lift my strongest lift was 170lbs for 2 and i weigh in at 205 and also 6ft with long limbs. i think if you train heavy all the time you will grow. deadlifts and t-bar row has help me big time!! grow!! grow!! grow!!
