Sixth sense proof.

Well at least for me. The thread about the "open water" movie made me remember an experience that sent shivers down my spine and many i told the story to, especially if you have a phobia about those things.

The day started out like any other in the Florida Keys, it was a very nice warm and sunny day. The water was calm and bue as can be. We jumped on a boat, a 30 foot yaht with a bunch of people and decided to go snorkeling out in the open water. There as spots in the Keys where you can be miles from shore and the water is not too deep with plenty of coral and tropical fish to be seen including some baracudas and huge sting rays.

So there i am in the water snorkeling and enjoying the sights but in the back of my mind i start to become paranoid. Looking ahead at the edge of my vision where the water looks hazy i saw a vary angular tail move right to left and it looked like it drifted to the left and dissapeared out of view. I thought, hmm well, i don't think it's a shark. It was one of those things where it "won't happen to YOU" type of mentality, so i snorkel on but my mind starts to race more and more. I became suddenly consumed with thoughts of the shape on that damn tail i saw. My mind now racing more and more and then suddenly a huge alarm went off in my head with a voice blaring "TURN AROUND NOW!!!!!!!" Without any thought i froze, got vertical in the water and turned 180 deg. There right behind me, a shark. I remember everything around me fading out and just seeing the shark. I was frozen in place and so was the shark. It was like a Wild West stand off. Staring eye to eye neither one moving. After what seemed like an eternity i s moved backwards slowly still facing it. He did not follow propably because we were face to face and predators like to attack from behind. As i moved away he faded from sight and i never saw it again. I made a bee line for the boat and that was that for the day. I thank God for the voice in my head telling me to turn around exactly when it did, who knows how that could have ended.

Damn bor. Great story.

I've never seen a shark, but Ive seen plenty of attornies, so I know exactly how you felt

he was probably trying to figure out what sort of fish you were. Sharks historically prefer different prey. Marine biologists guess it's because we're very boney relative to their natural prey.

No problem admitting, I think I would have shit my pants. Ever since seeing Jaws, I have been petrified of sharks. They can rip you to pieces.

Great story, and we all do undoubtedly possess an instinctive,or extra-sensory ability.Your conciousness extends beyond the physical body, and can pick up on stimuli around you that your limited physical senses may not.Glad you came out out okay!

Yeah definitely, the extra senses do work and in my case it was like a scream inside the head, pretty much impossible to ignore and miss. Almost like a Guardian Angel looking out for you.

Allon:

Yes i was lucky, but not in the sense you portray. Seeing sharks in a cage or from a boat is oh so diffrent when you get startled with one behind you. I remeber grabbing the life jackets emergency inflate cord with the CO2 cartridge, I was afraid he could just pull me down and drown me, not to mention getting mangled. It's like your mind races and at the same time it's very calm.

I tottally understand anyone being scared seeing a shark but really it is very rare they actually attack. Most paranoia in the world about sharks is because of jaws.
I scuba dive and it is really lucky to get to see a shark
I tell you, if I am sitting on the beach and someone comes out and says he just saw a shark, I am diving straight in.

Fair enough, as a scuba diver i can see your point. But i am sure a inexperienced snorkler or a surfer sees it differently. :)

Surfers should be scared, the shadow of the surfboard on the surface makes them look like turtles, I yummy meal for sharks.
under water a human being does not look like a meal for a shark and they leave us alone.

I don't care what you guys say, I'm still making a point of always swimming with a slow overweight friend just in case.

Don't tell Crak or Big Dawg though, they think I ask them to go swimming cause I actually like their company
