Since we're on the topic..

About three years ago someone in the same industry as myself had murdered a young man by plowing him down while he was walking in the middle of the street (not crossing the street - walking in the middle of the street) in a large pick-up like vehicle.

Anywho.

It was a hit and run.

A few random facts.

The driver has a history of DUI's and had been witnessed drinking by the bartender of the bar where he was a regular.

The young man the very week he was killed was told by a police officer that he and his friends have go to stop walking in the streets at night as not to get hit. (Talk about ironic.)

(There are more facts but they would give too much personal details about the innocent people involved.)

The driver left the scene but left chips of paint as evidence remained in the young man's shattered body; with the paint sample police we able to narrow down the hunt along with some canvassing a suspect was found.

Long story short.

The case became a trial over leaving the scene of an accident – not one of murder.

You can imagine how the young man’s mother felt.

Interestingly enough the driver and Lizzie Grubman share the same lawyer.

Hmmm

what ever happened with that? did she get off?

She was indicted Sept 12 or 13th and should be going to trial by summer of 2002. Her business partner, Peggy Siegal has walked from their PR firm.

He Daddio is co-filing against the plaintiffs and has stated that the injuries that occured "...were caused in whole or in part by (their) contributory negligence, comparative negligence and/or culpable conduct..." (yep, your girlie had nada to with it buddy - they simply jumped out of line into your Benz.) Basically he is saying that you were taking your own acknowledged risk by going out to a night club. Oddly enough, we all take that very same risk the second we wake up and get out of bed.

I would speculate that she will do very little time, daddy may have to fork out some money on her behalf - community service perhaps, as did the man above for leaving the scene of an accident.

If she doesn't get nailed in court - the locals will make her life a living hell. The Justice Court of Southampton does not smile too highly upon Ms. Grubman nor her father and their multiple lawyer's antics and sob pleas. (And that is from the horse's mouth - yah gotta LOVE small town gossip.)

So I guess everyone gets theirs - eventually.

1st paragraph - you're right. money talks.

2nd paragraph - I imagine she'll probably leave town after all this is said and done.

If you were driving and hit someone in the middle of the night who was walking in the street would you expect to get tried for murder? It is clearly not the drivers fault. All he should get charged for is leaving the scene of an accident and maybe disorderly conduct for what he did. Most of us would probably take off after hitting someone, its just a nervous reaction.

People see me drink, just because I had a drink doesnt mean im DUI. Maybe he has a history of it but it doesnt mean he was drunk. When he hit the guy. Its the own kids fault for walking in the street, especially after he was warned about it.

No I would not expect to tried for murder - but then again I would stop if I hit someone.

The driver has a documented history of DUI's and DWI's, has already done time for the DWI's and was driving without a licence at the time of the accident. The driver is an alcoholic, as fell off the AA wagon alcoholic. I know him personally and professionally and aside from his drinking problem he is a very nice man.

He left the scene because he was wasted, scared and driving without a licence - that is fact and out of his own mouth. Bottom line is he should not having been driving even before he took his car out of the garage that day. Had he not had the support of client with a lot of money and the right connections he would have done his entire 18 month sentence - not 3 weeks.

Do I feel for this guy - hell ya. His life will NEVER be the same. Nor will his now ex-wife who's eyes have not looked up from the ground since, nor his children that have to deal with the backlash.

Regarding his trial, it was never public knowledge that a policer officer told the young man not to walk in the street - it is not documented - I know about because the officer is a friend of mine and the conversation came up at random - the cop, my friend didn't even know the kid was killed at the time.

Another story for you.

A man, also in a truck, ran over another man that was taking a nap for pete's on the shoulder portion of the road when he veered around another car making a turn. It was dark - the driver didn't know anyone was there until he rolled over the body.

That driver stopped. That driver was not charged with anything.
The man that was killed - no record of who he was - labeled as one of many *day wagers* you find out here.

SIDE NOTE:

If anyone decides to go party in the Hamptons - you get caught and arrested for a DWI - expect to serve up to 90 days in jail.

Ahhhh....such fond memories of Lizzie Grubman. Pre - 9/11, she was the only non- Gary Condit news I could get on LI.

What a name! Lizzie Grubman. What a face. Ugh!

Thanks for the refresher.

I think maybe he should have gotten involuntary manslaughter, or vehicular manslaughter or whatever, because he has a history od drunk driving....but that guy really shouldnt have been walking in the middle of the road!!!
There have been several cases over here where people are hit and killed trying to cross the freeway---and no drivers are charged....they shouldn't be...we should know better than to walk in the middle of the road late at night.

All these people deserve to DIE DIE DIE. Not really. Just Lizzie.-I am not sure the news was even true, (just after it happened-think it was on the Stern show) but I thought I remembered people saying she was in a state of malevolent mind-a fit of rage-and just flat out plowed people down because they were in her way. If that was the case, its premeditated murder one imo.

I have sympathy for almost anyone, except drunk drivers.
For some reason they can be in the worst accidents and cause the most pain and suffering to others, and get by without a scratch. What really gets me is that after their "accident" they try to blame everyone but themselves.
