OK IM GONNA START BY SAYING I KNOW LITTLE ABOUT ROIDS.

Ok, this guy I know, who just got done with a cycle, claims its good to drink a soda after working out to help his 'insulin level' and repair muscle fibers.

His exact words are -- "An insulin spike after a workout helps to quickly repair torn muscle fibers."

That's false. It replenishes your glycogen levels when taken with some protein! :Chef: :tuc:

About 70 grams of Dextrose and 50 grams of Whey is perfect after a work-out...(Actually, I have read that Cutler will have a Coke and Whey Protein after training) one hour later it a complex carb and low fat protein meal.

No, he is not hurting himself.

i prefer dextrose, it has a glycemic index of 100. it spikes insulin and just as chefbone says.. i hear about guys drinkign a coke or 2 after working out, works the same way, also gotta get some whey in there too with it

Also it is good to take some R-ALA (like Glucorell R) and creatine with the sugars to enhance the glycogen replenishment and creatine uptake.

dextrose will work the best

Coke contains high fructose corn syrup which is basically a 'junk' carbohydrate...unless you buy the mexican coke - we're still talking about sodas right?

Hey, if it's good enough for Cutler, it's good enough for me.

Exactly, high fructose corn syrup has a low glycemic index and will not cause an insulin response (fructose digests slowly). Cane (table) sugar is a disacharide consisting of glucose and fructose so it doesn't have all that high a glycemic index either.

Dextrose (aka glucose) is what you want post workout to spike insulin and cause muscle growth.

I use beer brewers corn or rice sugar. It is 100% dextrose and is not that expensive.

It will help to replenish depleted muscle glycogen and it will blunt the effects of cortisol to some extent, insulin is very anti-catabolic. It will get the recovery process kicked off on the right foot.

Ha, yeah. I know about the "not posting a source" rule, I didn't think it would apply to this, though. Sorry if I was out of line.

i take a product for post-workout called aftermath. contains 120calories (per scoop) 30carbs 21g dextrose L-leucine 800mg L-Valine 800mg L-isoleucine 400mg Glutamine 2.5mg Kre-Alkalyn 500mg Taurine 2g Glocusamine 1g and all vitiamins minerals like magnesium folic acid, b12, b6, a, c etc...... its good stuff anyways, after i drink that i use 3-4 scoops, i wait for 10min then consume protein 50g shake. local guy that owns the supp shop has this made by sci-fit for his brand of products, its cheap and good.

Wouldn't the carbonation in coke interfere with the whey isolate, and blunt protein synthesis? Why not just go with dextrose? High fructose corn syrup cant be a good way to replenish glycogen.

EXACTLY!!! You are 100% on the money with that response. Dextrose is the only way to go. Sucrose will attach itself to your protien and you will shit it out.
Ever notice people at the gym who say protien gives them the shits usually don't use water. They use cranberry juice or apple juice... sucrose.

Where do you buy that stuff? Brewers corn or rice sugar?

How about AST's DGC? Anybody use that? I'm interested in trying it, but haven't really heard any feedback.
Yeah, that will work bro. It might me a little more expensive than just getting some dextrose or maltodextrin in bulk though. They have a similar glycemic index.

At the local brewing supply store but there are plenty of sites on the internet that sell brewing supplies as well.

Here's a link where you can get 4 lb for $4. http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products/products.asp?category=260
