Well, the other shoe finally dropped.

In my company's third round of layoffs, along with 60% of the remaining employees, I was laid off.
Decent severance package amounts to roughly two months before the money starts running out, so I can't really complain. But it's still a weird thing to suddenly be unemployed after three years with a great group of co-workers.
Unfortunately, this also means the end of my company-sponsored gym membership.
Looks like it's time for a little vacation and then a serious-ass job hunt in a crap technical economy.

Bummer bro, good luck on the Job hunt, you're a good man and solid all around. You will land on your feet!

You'll be fine man. Tech is not great right now, nor is anything. But it's not a total loss either. People are hiring, just not as much. Time to get your ass back on Dice. You'll find something. :)

That sucks man, but if it helps at all i just recently got laid off and my new job is double the salary...best thing that ever happened to me (job wise)...anyways sorry to hear the bad news..but im sure you'll find another job...i mean common...aren't all of us on this board overachievers? hehe :D

:teleport:

Tech Support. But I am un-assing any position that deals wth end-users. God, I was sick of that shit.
And thanks, WODIN.

I'm not afraid, as I have never had trouble getting a job. It's just unsettling to be unemployed. Makes me feel like a loser. Especially while supporting a family.

The whole company was freaked out, and people were being escorted into one-on-one meetings with their bosses. Alot of our VPs are leaving, too. Even our CFO. Not sure what to do with my thousands of stock options right about now. It's not looking good when teh CFO jumps ship.

Plus, I worked with some of the best people I have ever worked with in my life there.

I'll probably be a bit preoccupied for a while.

I feel ya, bro. It happened to me August 18th. The technology field is pretty weak right now, and I'm burnt out on it after only 2 years in the industry.
Good luck with the job hunt, I'm going back to school myself. Exercise and Nutrition interest me more then troubleshooting Exchange or listening to pasty white 100 lb loudmouth talk about how he patched a kernel for the Linux web servers....*shivers*

Never do a job that you hate just for the money.

Good Luck to you man. I work for a tech company also. Our round three of layoffs was right after the last quarter finished up. So if I have it timed right I should see round four coming right after Christmas.

A few weeks ago, when we had the last round--I received a letter, stating: "Toga select 30 people from your department to be layoff by morning." Not a job I want to repeat--especially when you don't know if you are on someone else's list!!

There is lot of opportunities out there--I doubt you will have any trouble finding new employment. Best of luck to you!! :)

Weapon... if there is anything me and the boys can do to help. Let us know!!

Man that sucks--

Sorry to hear about your troubles --- I guess i'm getting ready to embark on an uncertain career in the IT field myself--I graduate in December and have done alot of interviewing. The companies just are not hiring alot of folks like they were in the past.
By the grace of God I was selected for second interviews with two companies --- hopefully one will work out.

Hang in there weapon--I'll be pray'n for you to find the right position that will make your old one less appealing.

Seattle's a great town. I've lived here for over 9 years now, and I don't plan to leave. The mountains and the water make for a killer combo.
Now if the M's start kicking Yankee ass I'll get happy again. :D

That sucks bro. I do some tech support and I have to deal with end users sometimes. Fortunately, I don't have to do phone support. I just do e-mail support.

Ah man, the M's are breakin' my heart!!! My dad still lives in Gig Harbor, has season tickets. Not sure the old man will survive another post-season loss to NY. We shall see.

Anyway, good luck with the job bro. Might check out some contract gigs til you can find something permenant.

Keep dreaming and hoping!
Sorry for your bad luck but it always leads to better luck. Hang in there.
+ Karma to ya!

Right there with you brother. I still have a job, but not for long. they are letting us leave during the day for interview. I had one today.

Assisting someone with the commercial microwave to heat their breakfast taco does not count as tech support.
