Shoulder Pain

New member
I have been lifting for 3 years now, and I am just finishing up my winter bulking session, which involves lifting heavier and shorter reps, now towards the end of this session my left shoulder is starting to somewhat throb towards the front. obviously its from lifting hard, but I took 2 weeks off and i went back today and did a light chest work out of higher reps and less wieght I felt a little pain but nothing crazy.

I know i should take time off to heal but I really can't see my self out of the gym
I don't want to lose everything I've gained over the winter, so should i just go light and try and maintain and stay toned? because i really don't want this muscle to turn soft on me. If i go to a doctor I know they are just going to advise me to stay the hell out of the gym.....

I know its stupid to keep pushing it and using it, But I just love to gym, and when I don't go to the gym I feel like a waste, right now I am at 5'9 185lb about 13-14% BF and I'm about to start cutting down for the summer. and this injury is going to mess up my plans

what chest work outs put the least amount of strain on the shoulders?

go to a pt. (therapist that is) Find out exactly what is going on. With a pt background, I might be able to elp you over the net, but nothing will beat going to a real one and letting him do the tests. After you know exaclty what is wrong, you can make a plan of action as how to deal with it. Trust me, you WANT to know what is making it hurt.

Are your elbows fully tucked on flats?

I've made a few threads about my shoulder, it only hurt on the left shoulder, and only during flats...inclines very slight pain which was only following the days that I did flats. I backed off flats for 2 weeks, doing inclines still, and it feels a lot better. I'm going to give it a few more weeks before trying to work flats back in. The pain came in the first place because of my form, I would flare my elbows during heavier sets...
you may have to re-evaluate your form.

Ok should I take off a month just to heal and just jog, do legs, and eat good?
or should i just go light on the wieght for upper body

also should I see a doctor first or therapist?

I think you should see a licensed physical therapist. Also, you should try to go to a "sports medicine" clinic. They know the human muscularture like the back of their hand--unlike a lot of doctors.

Your rehab really depends on what is wrong. If you are having inflamation ect you would probably take a while off. However, you might have a tearing in the rotator cuff, impingment, ect. Usually, you strengthen the posterior rotator cuff in these situations or have surgery.

Bottom line, go see a sports med doctor/pt

Flat bench is a shoulder wrecker for many people. Be sure to tuck the elbows and maybe try a closer-grip for awhile. Add in some rotator cuff work (external rotations) and be sure to stretch the shit out of your lats, chest, and biceps.

See a doctor to find out the exact source of the pain. There are 300,000 ways to have shoulder pain and there is no magic healing method.

I know how you feel, i had similar problems. I tryed to work around it now i have chronic inflamation. It didnt even hurt when benching or doing anything, just sometimes doing normal everyday activities.

You are just prolonging it if you dont take time off and eventually have to anyway.
