If only you knew how much bullshit is published because it is a requirement of the job......

and without waste disposal people we would be living in garbage. im not saying what they are doing isnt important but you dont get paid based on the importance of your work. teachers deserve low pay because they are doing a job that anybody can do. education is important but at the lower levels it can be provided by morons with teachers edition text books. i do have more respect for college professors who are involved in other businesses and are required to publish their work.

i know its a lot of bullshit but at least they are forced to do something not like high school teachers who have nothing to do. its really not the publishing i respect so much as their other business ventures they are involved in. most of my professors enjoy talking about some of the stuff they do or have done and i like to know they have real value in the business world.

I think trying to get teenage hormone inraged, living in today's fucked up society, to study or learn something....is a VERY hard feat. I wouldn't have to patience to do that. Nor could you pay me enough to teach middle school kids.

Salami,
Well then you make a good point. In doing business they are putting the theory into practice. That must be good right? Some people would say that this prevents them from being good teachers though.....I can name quite a few University lecturers who are terrible at lecturing but the money they bring in ensures that they have a job.

I'm not sure that teaching is so easy if you want to do it well. Sure if you just want to go in say your bit and just hope that the students get it then it could be seen as easy. As you say, anybody can read a textbook and repeat what it says. But a good teacher is worth their weight in gold.....unfortunately if you dont pay some people alot then they wont see the need to perform well. Also, the people who have the knowledge to make good teachers will leave to work elsewhere if you dont pay them competitively. Alot of countries are beginning to realise this and are improving the wages.....

I understand the concern for obediance in schools. A strict uniformed conduct code is necessary to enforce and protect a productive learning environment. However, physically punishing students should never be used as a deterent or used to maintain obediance. Physical punishment will only create resentment and animosity between the students, faculty and staff.
Expulsion, suspension and other forms of punishment are more effective when dealing with the misbehavior of students.

Only parents have the responsibility and burden of properly punishing their children. School administrators have no authority to untilze physical force when punishing a student.

i dont think you really need teachers to do anything beyond explaining whats in the text. then test them on it to make sure they learn. then its up to the parents if they are satisfied with the grades. if people want to give their kids an edge then they can send them to a private school. i dont think tax dollars need to be wasted on higher paid teachers at this point.

Salami

I have been lurking here for a couple of months but recently registered. I have read your responses on a lot of different topics. This one has hit a nerve with me! Why are you so bitter in life? Everything you say is negative. Teachers taught you everything you needed to know about how to succeed in life! I know you are going to respond that you learned it the hard way by experience but think about it. I am guessing you have a career but how did you attain that career? Teachers taught you those things and then they tested you on it! Your bitterness towards teachers, for that matter everybody else, is uncalled for. My wife is a teacher and if you think anybody can do that job you better think again. Sure they get time off during the summer but they still have to attend seminars to further their education during the summer! The have to earn a set amount of hours in a certain time span to keep their teaching credentials. They work long after the kids go home. They bring their work home and do work at home during the evenings. They call parents and have conferences with parents. With today's kids, they put their life on the line everyday because they never know when some disturb child is going to pull a gun and cause carnage during school. This is heavy duty stuff to think about. Are they underpaid? Damn straight they are! They don't do it for the pay. They do it because they have the urge to make a difference! My wife teaches seventh grade and just this past May, she received a card in the mail from a student she taught who was graduating. The card was a thank you note thanking her for making a difference in her life! Not much more can be said about the satisfaction this has brought to her! By the way, that is not the only thank you note she has received from former students. Take time and reevaluate why you are so bitter in life. Not trying to flame you, that's not my style! Just trying to give you something else to think about.

Both of my parents are teachers. My mom has taught K-1 for 31 years now and I know all the crap that she has to put up with. She teaches in a very poor community and I see how hard she works for those children everyday. She earns every penny.

I also see what she has to put up with too. I believe that they should have the right to paddle. I remember a kid that she was having problems with that was horrible yet the parent's wouldnt' let the child be spanked. They finally called the parents up there and told them that they could paddle their child, the teacher/principal could padd them, or the child could never come back. They signed the proper forms saying that the child could be paddled and that drastically changed the child's behavior.

LoL.

Notice how school discipline started declining once paddling was outlawed.

No further comments, your honor.

Aw hell why not just give the pupils a piece of paper with the lesson written on and then kick em out of the school.....why even bother with the teacher if all he/she has to do is test and read out of a book? With all due respect that was a very narrow minded statement which shows up a complete misunderstanding of a learning process.

Private school??? Not everybody can afford a private school......thats a sure fire way to make sure the poor stay uneducated and the rich educated. Do you consider this a good thing?
