Trying to decide whether to change gyms or not.....not much to choose from in my area....won't go back to the Y as it's just awful....

The new one has LESS cardio equipment than the one I go to now, bigger free weight area, a squat rack, hack squat, curl rack, about the same amount of Nautilus type machines, no cable machine, no TVs.....They have a pool & sauna which I'll never use.....they don't provide towels and they are the same walking distance from my house....looked pretty clean

The current gym has a tiny weight room (crowded with 5 people using it), ok amount of Cybex machines, a cable machine, good amount of CV equipment, TVs with the cardio machines, they provide free towels, and they are clean & nice, no squat rack or curl rack (only a Smith machine), no hack squat, just leg press

My current gym is $110/month for 2; the new gym would be $40 upfront & 36 months at $36.15 per month....

There is the no brainer.

For $70/month savings i'm gone. I can watch tv at home and I steal towels from hotels.

LOL

We got guest passes for the other place so we can pop in at different times to see how crowded it is.......the gyms in the City here are small, and can fill up with little # of people there....

Plus the current gym has a parking lot, with the new place, there's no place to park but on the street.....so I can't go by myself during the day...unless I pay for parking...

The actual monthly savings for both of us would be $110 vs. $72.30

$110 buys alot of chicken tits and beer.

Wow, (no pun intended.... as it is the name of my gym) I had no idea how absolutely spoiled I was. My gym ain't perfect but has a lot of free weights and equipment, tons of cardio equipment, is kept pretty clean, free chidcare, plenty of parking, waaaaay too many TV's, a spinning room and lots of cardio classes. I pay $17.25 p/month... FOR LIFE. Been a member for like 5 or so years.

What's wrong with the Central Y?

I used to belong there. What I didn't like about it is that they are constantly renovating it for the homeless men who live there -- never on the gym part. All the homeless men hang out in the lobby & out front, so you have to wade thru them to get in. It's EXTREMELY crowded and you have to wait 30 min - 1 hour for CV equipment and even tho there is supposed to be a time limit, no one enforces it.....

As for the weights -- it's a social area where couples sit & talk, don't work out and hog the equipment....it's impossible to get a good weight work out in....The staff doesn't really enforce anything...

The last straw for me was the one nite I was there & there was a shooting in the parking lot over a B-ball game. The guy fired 18+ shots......

The savings per month would actually be $37.70, which is about 3 cases of beer.....

the gyms over there costs 110$ a month??

The gym I go to does.....there are other gyms that are 30-40 minute drive in parking lot traffic that are cheaper -- NO WAY!!

Home gym. With that money, you would make a nice one. Hopefully your house will come soon, then you`ll have that option if you choose. good luck. That`s a lot of money every month...

Well, to be honest,we may not move after all as the houses we like are all about $250k+

The houses we can afford are all in shitty neighborhoods like the one we live in now, so why bother moving?? Plus, if we stay here, I can continue to sink lots of money into savings.....then we can move to the beach to retire......

My hubby drinks Natty Light, believe it or not.....$9.99 a case.....

He prefers more $$$ beer, but with me unemployed, we all need to make sacrifices.....

Sorry, I slept in this morning, then had to have my steak + eggs + oatmeal

How was your chicken omelette??

excuses excuses.

no chicken omelette. i had a shake with oatmeal in it. the normal breakfast. going to the gym here shortly. i'll make 1/2 dz sunny side up eggs when i get home.

hearing what some of you pay for the gym, i actually think i'm getting a pretty good deal. last time i checked, i'm paying $79/semester. it's included in fees for the university whether you use it or not. considering i'm doing a summer semester, that's $19.75/mo for me. not too bad of a deal.

IMO the squat rack alone should be the deciding factor. Also saving money is always good.

That's what I was thinking....the fact that this place has a squat rack, a curl rack, hack squat, leg press & Smith may be a better fit.....

I seem to have outgrown my current place....plus more people keep leaving the Y to join & it's crowded now....

I have the choice between several 24-Hour Fitness clubs. The one near work has more Hammer Strength but lousy atmosphere. The one near home has great atmosphere but very crowded. I go there.

I WISH we had a place like that around here....or at least a Bally's!!

Wilm, DE may be near so much, but we are sooo far behind in stuff.....

Zanzibar Blue just had to close down due to lack of business here. They had a really big headliner once (like BIG) with a $10 cover & 3 people showed up
