Should i support Israel

New member
I haven't really looked into the politics of the whole arab/Isreal conflict, but the more i read the more i am baised in favor of Israel.

Israel is a nation state that was formed because Jews needed a homeland where they would not be persecuted. It is, i think, the only democracy in the middle east. The literacy rates are 95% (most middle east countries have literacy rates of around 60-70%), Israelis have won dispropritionate amounts of awards for scientific development, and it appears their wars are wars in self defense. They have a per capita income of $19,000 a year, higher than all the countries in the middle east with 10-100x the geographic area and billions of barrels of oil underneath. Their per capita income is higher than countries like Iraq, Iran or Saudi Arabia, which have tens of billions of barrels of oil at their disposal.

the arab world appears to be filled with illiterate (literacy rates hover at around 60-70%), racist (in the sense that they promote one ethnic as superior over another) anti semetic, fanatical, sexist, religiously intolerant, double standard endorsing peoples who subscribe to conspiracy theories.

As far as the double standards, i mean if Israel kills 50 Arabs everyone goes nuts but many other Arab countries kill 50 for nothing.

Here is a description of Israeli torture methods

http://www.derechos.org/human-rights/mena/iot.html

Human Rights abuses are rampant in Israel. Until recently, torture was legal and the security forces routinely tortured political detainees, most of whom were never charged with any crimes. Methods include violent shaking of detainees, restraining in very painful conditions, sensory deprivation, sounding of loud music for prolonged periods and others. Several prisoners have died as a consequence of torture. It's hoped that a recent Supreme Court decision outlawing this practice, however, will finally put an end to this widely condemned practice.

Compared to torture methods of other Arab countries (which also target muslims), which include torturing family members, raping family members, murder and torturing to death, why is Israel singled out for torture methods such as 'violent shaking' while governments like Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and probably 80% in the region do much worse?

I can't find stats, but i'd like info on how many arabs the Israelis have killed over the years. I'm sure it is much less than most of the other middle eastern countries who condemn it do. I remember reading on EF that the Jordanian government, which is where palestinians go to escape Israel, has killed more palestinians than Israel. I wish i had stats to back that up.

If i am wrong show me how.

Keep in mind i'm new to the Arab/Israel conflict and i'm not looking for an 8 page thread filled with extremism on both sides, i jsut want someone to show me if i'm wrong for thinking these things about Israel. It seems they are getting double standards layed on them by poor, illiterate, fanatical muslims.

I'm sure they do bad things (like steal land), but they appear to be an educated, scientific democratic people (a rarity in the middle east) who unluckily ended up with a nation surrounded by extreme double standards proposed by populations of anti semetic conspiracy theorists.

you're gonna get it anyway.

Alot of those problems in Arab countries come from the oppression of women. That's half the population and they don't go to school and they don't work.

Yes, in many ways Israel is the shinning star of the middle east, but they have lots of support from the rest of the world. The Arab world only gets support when it comes to their oil which is own by the rich of the middle east.

Check out what people in countries other than the US or Israel say about Israel.

I also agree with The Nature Boy.

I need to read more on it as well, and yes it seems most of their wars have been in self defense, as I've read a relatively abbreviated history of them in a book I have just recently.

Basically at this point, I think the Israeli/Jewish people are a tenacious, close knit group...not necessarily "bad" people... but I think that they are a questionable ally of the united states, and the more I read, in general, the more wary I become...

Read this article and the supporting links... I don't believe anything I read automatically, on either side of any argument, but this is some compelling and frightening stuff.

Don't forget, Israel also receives billions and billions of our hard earned tax dollars that many of the other surrounding countries see none of.

No matter what your stance is, Israel has been MORE than patient with the whole conflict. If they really wanted to they could wipe out every palestenian in less than a week...lord knows if the palestenians had as much power as Israel there would not be a jew left alive in the middle east.

$3 billion a year? Egypt gets $3 billion a year too and they are still 50% literate, with a per capita income 1/7th of Israels.

yeah but look at the population difference?

also, Israel is scheduled to get 10 billion dollars this year. I got that from the bbcnews.com if you don't beleive me.

Well 10 billion is a bigger deal, but i just looked it up and supposedly it is spread over 3-5 years. Plus i think they are just loans, not aid.

http://www.rense.com/general33/mooch.htm

Egypt has 12x more people than Israel so 3 billion isn't as much, but even with that their economy is only 2x bigger so 3 billion still goes a long way.
