Should I stop going to physical therapy?

I had rotator cuff surgery the end of November. I've been doing physical therapy since. My should hasn't advanced enough to where I can do a full workout. However, at the current rate my physical therapist is training me, I won't be benching an empty bar for another year. I really feel like she's holding me back so she can keep me coming in and charging me. There's nothing we do that I can't do at home or at the gym. Is it time to leave it and take charge of my own physical therapy? I went to the gym tonight and was able to push 3 reps with 205 on the flat bench. However, my therapist won't let me go above 60 pounds on the nautilus seated bench. I feel like I'm training for the special olympics.

3 months isn't really that long. i'd be careful. sounds like you wanna jump back in and start adding 20lbs. a week to your bench. i'd be careful.

When I complainted to the surgeon about pain 3 weeks after the operation his response was "I cut off the end of your claivicle, it's going to hurt for a while". Maybe I'm just expecting too much. I still feel like I'm wasting money on therapy. My co-pay is $35 per visit.

yeah. i heard about the clavicle thing before. but this was from guys in the gym, all heavy lifters, and remained so afterwards. maybe hint around with spacing the visits further apart.

If she isnt teaching you anything new and is just watching you "workout", id say drop her. I don't know anything about your injury but I would say if you still feel like you are not where you want to be, try to find someone better.

All physical therapists are NOT created equal. I tore a ligament in my lower back and went to the doc. He reccomended me a physical therapist at a fancyshmancy facility. He sucked and was a complete waste of time and I kept reaggravating my injury. Then I went to someone else. He was good but not good enough - he was more experienced with posture and deskjockey injuries rather than a lifters injury. Then I found someone who was a lifter himself and worked with advanced athletes. The result: Now I am lifting more than ever before, and in a much healthier fashion.

Find someone else bro. From my experience, the shitty ones will drag it out to get your money. In fact, the good ones will too but at least it'll be worth it.

Also, try to find through the internet or through real life other lifters with your injury to see what limits you should expect in your training. I dunno if I'm allowed to post links but maybe some ELITE powerlifter websites with a q+a section or other forums with experienced lifters/rehab people.
