Should I move to Phoenix or the Boston area?

BigRedCat

I am planning on moving because I hate California. My choices are, Phoenix/Scottsdale- where I dont know anyone but would still be close to LA(for musical reasons) or New England- Boston area where I have allot of family. I wonder how the job market is in those places. Lord knows it sucks here! Boston is close enough to NYC for my band(again, musical reasons) so that would work as well. Does having family around outweigh moving to a city closer to where I already am? These are the questions I am asking myself.

Anyone have any advice?

I believe there are thousands of Greeks in the boston area so that's got to be a plus:D

Is New York really switched on to your band's style of music Red. I don't know, but i would imagine that the west coast would be more favourable for that. New York doesn't strike me as a cutting edge rock town.

The job market in Phoenix kinda' sucks right now. If you can do construction, there's always work in that field. Other than that though... there's a good chance you'd get stuck with a shitty call-center job. (There's a million of those here.)

BigRed, my partner at work is trying to make the move back to phoenix with a law enforcement agency out there, but there seems to be a hiring freeze nationwide for all agencies. anyway, he says the cost of living is WAY cheaper out there than it is here in SD. might be something to look into. the plus side would be you get to tint ALL of your windows on your vehicle.

:fro:

Hey VinylGroover, what's up man?
Well, NYC is pretty good for any music really. I just need access to LA or NYC for showcasing for labels. LA is pretty homoginized as far as hard rock- lots of sound alike nu-metal bands. I just cant make any money here in Cali and it is cutting into my being able to do my music. So...I dont know. I just got back from Boston, I was up there for a week. My girl wants to move there if its better than here(financially anyway). I am not looking for a permanent place to settle or anything, just a place to make some money and get things rolling.

I dont care about the weather too much anymore. I am more concerned with being happy or at least not miserable. I really dont know about the job market in the Northeast either but my bro lives there and claims there are lots of jobs.

Oh and pussy definately=good.

Well San Diego is not too cheap either. I wouldn't actually live in Boston- more like the North Shore. That is where my bro and my dad live. Its still pricey but out here in Cali its Florida wages and New York rents. Not too good.

Phoenix is definately cheaper. I just dont know anyone there and I would have to find a job. My girl has a degree in enviromental science and she hasn't found work here in that field either- she has been a bar manager for awhile until she gets something in her field. Damn crappy economy!

Boston is the most expensive city to live in.

Keep that in mind.

But you could come visit me in Montreal...only 4 hours away.

SSSHhhhhhhh.

What's that sound? I think it's a BIG RED CAT hitting the accelerator and heading towards beantown.

Honestly, Boston would not be in my top 5 list of places to live but under the circumstances it is an option. I could just scrape by here in Cali forever :(

All I know is I have to get my shit together to get on Ozzfest and I need to do it quick!

move to Scottsdale.. Boston does not have the nice weather.

I guess it depends on what you are into. I would go to Arizona.

i'll lived in mass. for 19 years and its tight. if you move to boston itself then i would but some of the outer cities suck. good luck bro.

I would say Boston, not only is it a great city but like you said its close to NYC. I'm from Boston and I've been to Arizona, I personally think it sucks and not having a big city is horrible.

and PUSSY = GOOD

Also close to Montreal as stated before

Since you have to change, make it to Boston. This way I can visit you when I come up every February. NYC will be good for the band stuff...you already know that. Having family near you would be nice. Boston area should be good for both of you to find work. And the change of seasons in Boston is more profound as opposed to desertlike AZ.

And it has been unanimously agreed upon, yes, PUSSY = GOOD.

OK - Just based on the fact that you are trying to break into the music industry I would say go to Boston.

It's as expensive as hell, but the chances of getting gigs are going to be that much better. Simply for the fact the you'll be located in the NE and be able to rent a van and do a month tour and hit some major cities. Boston. NYC, DC, Maryland, Philly.

Much larger concentration of colleges (i.e. Kids into new music) so you can get them hooked on your shit.

Name me another band that has come out of Scotsdale area other than Jimmy Eat World and I'll name you ten out of the NE.

In fact I should be your fucking manager!!!!!! J/K.

Whats your band's name?

My band's name is rouse. Yeah I am starting to agree with you folks, Boston is close by allot of big cities to play in. I wonder if I would be better off renting a house and turning a room into a home practice studio or renting a monthly studio. I have to look into that.

Boston=hot women( east coast is the best area in the united states)

phoenix=old guys covered in dust with beards wearing cowboys hats

boston=freezing over right now. If you don't mind the cold then go for it.

eagles=zero superbowl wins. Only a loser roots for the eagles.

ffos's dick=extremely large. Compared to a newborn.

;)

Actually Florida has the hottest women I have seen so far(NYC has tons as well)- lived there off and on for 10 years. I grew up in New England and the women are pretty hot but not like Florida. Of course most of the FL girls are dumb as a rock but that isn't always bad. haha.

Yeah I was just up in Boston last week- cold as a witches tity! I hear it has been more than 12 days below freezing. Yikes.

I snowboard so the winters are ok by me.

Oh my God, the weather on east coast isn't that bad. It's not like it's snowed here EVERY DAY for the last 5+ weeks.

Oh, wait........

Of course I don't live right on the coast so I don't get that benefit. I get lake effect snow (as in Ontario & Erie).

Gin Blossoms- That's ten you owe me, and I've got another 10 in my book here :D

Bands from the Boston area:

Boston
Aerosmith
Staind
Powerman 5000
Aimee Mann-not exactly rock but I am pretty sure she is from Boston.

That is all I can think of. Surely not 10!

by the way, gin blossoms and jimmy eat world suck! Just my opinion.
