Should I be upset???

I recently got my parents a really nice Christmas gift. I got them 4 days and 3 nights at OBX (outer banks, North carolina) for a vacation (they havent gone on one in literally 4 years)

well my mother is a methodist minister. so because of the Tsunami tragedy, she and the church organized an auction for donated items where the proceeds would be donated to the disaster.

Guess what my parents put up on auction just a few weeks after i gave it to them. I understand why, but I'm still a bit upset about it. Am I stupid?
 
I wouldn't be upset. They are doing something they are committed to and trying to put others first before themselves. I would be proud if I was you and do not let it bother you. Their unselfishness says a lot about them. Props to you for having great parents. Some people can not claim that!

unselfish? they didnt purchase the trip, unselfish would be putting a 2nd mortgage on the home to help out the distater relief, dude is a student and spent a lot of money on that, its a slap in the face

They get the tax deduction and you demand the money paid back to you.
 
I would be upset considering you probably spent a grip on it. Just tell them how you feel.
 
Realistically I guess I should just think of it as myself being the one who donated those funds to the people over there..i mean 150,000 and still counting? and another earthquake over the weekend? storms pillaging the west coast? 75 degrees and sunny in january in atlanta? hold on, let me start reading Revelations in the bible real quick.

Have to disagree with you. There are a lot of things people can do that do not require them to mortgage their house and be considered unselfish.

He gave it to them because he loves them and wants them to have it. It's up to them what they do with it. Now, if they were auctioning it off and keeping the money then I would be pissed.

They are using the tickets to help their relief cause and there is nothing wrong with that. It's probably hard for people to imagine this nowadays since it is a ME society. Good to see there are still good people in the world like kak's parents.

It's hard to believe that you are that close to graduating since what happened to you at that other school. I've been wondering if you made out alright over that situation.

I remember that lady was very pretty. Hope things work out for you.

for reals, why couldn't they auction off something of theirs like a car of a grandfather clock? That would have been more "unselfish", with this they are earning the good name in their community and don't really give up anything of their own.
 
Ok ok..hold up..Its not like my parents are rich (they are lower middle class with a minister salary and dad's owns a re-upholstery shop). what else could they auction up? A 1989 Ford Conversion Van? A 1978 Ford LTD? or how about the 1983 Ford Econoline Van. or the only nice car they have, my mom's 1998 Ford Avalon.

i mean i wasnt asking should i be pissed at them, just upset at all.
 
they already have a good name. my mom is the church's minister. plus other people in the community donated things. like restaurants, hotels, elks lodge, bars, pool halls, enterprise, u haul..etc.
 
They would have auctioned you off if not for the fact that your fair market value is less than their yearly dependent tax deduction
