Should fattys or bean poles be...

should they be personal trainers? makes me laugh when I see it.

I am a bean pole. I also have run 3 marathons, 8 1/2 marathons, done about 30 triathlons, and coached about 200 people towards doing running and multisport races. I also knew more about rehab and therapeutic modalities for knees and backs than 90% of people in the industry.

Don't judge a book by its cover. Personal training isn't all about lifting weights and getting huge.

agreed

lol, same as people who have no idea about fitness being a trainer!
No, i don't think that they should be trainers. Let's face it, use the lead by example method. Obviously fatty cakes don't work out, don't eat healthy, etc...Therefor they should not be trainers!

Being totally honest here...I think either of the extremes would lack credibility if I were in the market for a personal trainer.

for me, and all i know, id have to be really impressed/interested by the success of a trainer to even consider spending my money on them.

if a fat or skinny dude waltzed up to me saying they had all the answers, it would be hard for me to trust them

It's a pretty fuckin stupid argument if you ask me.

Now, if someone is fat...hrmm, that might be a little more hard to swallow. But if someone isn't jacked/huge or whatever, that doesn't make them not credible.

What alot of people don't think about though, is that EVERYONE has different goals. Not everyone wants to be super jacked or ripped or whatever. Has nothing to do with that. Some people just enjoy being healthy.

Not only that, but on the other end of the spectrum there are plenty of jacked people who don't know a fuckin thing about diet/training/biology/kinesology. They might have great genetics or found something that simply works for them or just took alot of steroids. I've met so many people like that who don't know shit. I'm not the biggest guy in the gym but i usually know more than 99% of people about diet. To proclaim them a guru just for that is silly and not well thought out

Obviously the whole thing is practice what you preach, but look at psychologists/psychiatrists...they can psychoanalyze everybody but themselves. They always have another shrink. Does that mean they're not good at their job? No..it just means when it comes to dealing with yourself, its harder to do it alone than with assistance. I know jacked AND knowledgable personal trainers who HAVE personal trainers, if they compete or what not.

yeah, so that argument is bullshit. but does it pop in peoples minds? im sure it does initially, but if they're good enough at their job in the end it doesnt mean anything. usually people can see how smart/knowledgable/confident you are, and this is speaking from experience as a PT. I was pretty lean, good symettry, no juice at the time, but i wasn't huge by any means when i was PT...but people would hear me speak and take me very seriously.

Maybe I should have been more specific. bean poles training at the gym. This one guy is 6'2' 6'4 maybe 170-175. most people tht are using the gyms services are looking to get big or lose weight. I see fat guys trainign fat people.

If i were fat and looking for help fromn a gym it would be discouraging to have someone training me that isnt much smaller than me. I am sure they know what they are doing but it is not veryu inspiring.

Its like I would never put my money with someone to invest that was not making money in the market.

Ouch!!! Stupid?

If someone is a bean pole and doesnt look in shape.

I think you know what kind of people I meant or I had hoped anyways.

naw man...i didn't mean you. i'm just saying, to automatically assume that someone doesn't know their shit beceause of the way they look is ignorant.

nutritionists don't even look like they work out, but they're essentially doctors of food.

i wuold say though, that person should have looked pretty good at least ONE point in their life. not everyone can sustain it, but you can reach it a few times if you have that much knowledge

See I agree with you there. I think that trainers should aspire to be in shape for whatever they do as long - whether it be bodybuilding or marathon running. I never did clients who wanted to lose weight or get huge. Not that I couldn't do it (I competed as a bber twice years ago) but because it didn't do anything for me.

It's like when you watch MMA - you can't tell for a second that a guy is a black belt and could kick your ass six days from sideways but then he gets in his element and smokes you. All I'm saying is that beanpole or fatty might be a national level athlete or powerlifter.

Personally I'd put more stock in what the people they trained look like before/after. If they had a history of turning fatties into fitties and/or fitties into bodybuilders, then fuck yes I'd love to train with them.
