Both! It should definitely come from the parents, but at the same times lots of parents out there don't make enough efforts with their kids so it must be taught. If it wasn't taught at all then I am sure we would have even more disease and teenage pregnancies. I could care less if the school teaches my daughters about it. I plan to talk to them about it too.

So the message is not getting through to teenagers, judging by the number of teenage pregnancies and continuing spread of STDs. Identifying sexual responsibility with formal education can be counter-productive, as it can be fashionable to ignore what you are taught in schools. The most effective channel for sex education is the media, and particularly TV, films and magazines.

The problem is hormones. Hormones will make rational humans make irrational decisions. Grown men who have wives and kids get caught sucking off hairy weirdos in bathroom stalls and hire prostitutes ala Spitzer for $75 a minute. They know better. Why do they do it? Their hormones are out of control. Plus there are psychological issues going on.
On another note, this stuff can happen to anyone but it does happen more to kids on the lower end of the socioeconomic ladder. Probably (1) they are not even in school to learn; (2) they are already living in an environment that encourages such behavior or an environment that simply doesn't condemn such behavior; (3) and they are brainwashed by the media that it is cool to bump and grind and have sex with 36 year old rap stars like R. "I wanna piss on you" Kelly.
IMO it all boils down to how you were raised. I learned at a very young age that if I screw up I will be held accountable for my actions. I've made it this far in life simply because of that. Too many people do not take responsibility for their actions.

Definitely both. Learning at school about the body pat names and some of the basic of reproduction are good for kids to learn in a group environment. Parents should express their specific wishes of the children as far as their sexual activity and protection, etc.
I know I'll be teachings strict abstinence to my kids.

trust me, in the mid 70's we were one of the 1st to get this "education" and when my kids were exposed to it, i was very involved in the subject and if and when they would be exposed to the "public's " opinion on when they should be exposed..

Dont you think open discussion of sexual practice and relationships among younger teenagers encourages sexual activity before they are ready, by adding to peer pressure, and devalues its own message because of the risk of classroom ridicule. It is better to discuss sexual responsibility in a one-to-one context, either with older siblings or parents, or perhaps via Internet youth portals.
