Should adult children who still live with their parents pay room and board?

As I said, this isn't me charging my stepson, this is his own mother. I told y'all the situation on page one, one thing I didn't know is she's charging him $50 a month for his cell phone, too (even though it's on the family plan, she's charging his sister whose living with me now, the same thing still), so actually his room/board is $350 a month. How much does a family plan for a cell phone cost? Oh, did I tell you guys, the kids each got whole life insurance when they were babies. They've been paying their own premiums on that, too for I don't know how long. I'm waiting for his sister to get a copy of life insurance plan so I can see who the beneficiary is.

Anyway, I finally figured out why his mother is pushing him to go to college full time, you can't take a tax deduction on a healthy person who is 20 if they aren't going to school full time. He turns 20 soon.

The latest from that end of the world is that basically if the boy doesn't enroll in full time college immediately she will start taking away things his possessions and so forth, shit like internet access, cable box in his own room (that he pays for himself), video games (that he bought with his own money), etc.

TITCR, with added conditionals:

1) Bachelor's or higher. If you want an associate's degree in plumbing, you can work while studying toilet mechanics.

2) Non-toilet university within financial reach. That shitty, non-accredited private art school for $30k/year is out.

3) Non-fluff major. I don't care if you think a fucking degree in 19th century african-american transgender studies is "interesting" or "important", it's not.

4) Real-world potential. Unless you're on the PhD track and have a realistic chance of a top grad school, that BA in psychology is shit, pure shit. Same with poli sci unless you're going to a top law school.

I agree that part of a non-shitty parent's job is raising the child, regardless of how things were "back in [my] day". However, parents should not encourage blatantly idiotic actions like above.

You mock 19th century transgender studies without understanding it...lol
Totally, but BA degrees, I read in USA Today, and this was in 09 that 65% to 70% of undergrads were moving back in to live with parents due to inability to get hired. This economy is not the same.

Smurfy's situation is similar to the attitude my family exudes. I lived with my dad from O8 to 2010 with low pay University gig.
If I did want children and had them, this is what I would do as well.

Good God. Boardwalk Empire style on your own family.
Wow.
I wonder how much disdain permeates that household?
Wow. Does she check the water meter every time son or daughter take a shower?

why'd your husband marry such an awful bitch; is she super hot?

Average, honestly, cleans up pretty well. There were some mitigating circumstances. Long story short, she was kind of a rebound relationship for him and, with a bit of makeup, she bears a resemblance to the woman he was rebounding from.

The materialism had always been there (she's real big on appearances and the "middle class lifestyle") but it was relatively subtle until the divorce. Then she really showed her true colors.

I'd suggest that she is just helping him grow up and grow out...

except that would take the character of someone that was a giver which she doesn't sound like...

The boy needs to move on, as far as the whole life policy goes, it's not who is the beneficiary, it's who owns the policy, often times it's not the insured, especially in the case of the kids..

Someone should just stab this bitch and get it over with...She isnt trying to teach anyone anything, she is just trying to keep her selfish ass lifestyle paid for by other people so that she doesnt have to do shit. People like her are completely worthless and serve no purpose on this earth.
