Shipping Gear

I thought it would be informative to get some info on the best way to ship gear. I have a little info on the USPS.

I was a contractor on a project for the USPS. I was in OVER 200 post offices across the south central and south east US. In all of my travels this is what is saw.

NEVER did I see any type of packages being searched.

NEVER did I see any drug dogs being used at ANY of the post offices.

NEVER did I see anything that would lead me to believe that USPS is actively searching packages.

*** Not to say it could not happen, I just did not see it.

I was in post offices that ranged from po-dunk one horse towns to a major distribution center at a large metro airport.

I'm sure we have some folks that work for parcel companies, please tell your tales.

I would assume most of the searching goes on when mail is coming into the nation from other countries, not at municipal offices.

That may be true, but that is a customs issue, which is a different entity.

I'm thinking domestic (US) parcel handlers.

dude

i send 1000's of parcels every month using fedex, ups (rarely) dhl and emery worldwide. maybe 3 times in the last year have i had to deal with customs issues.

3 out of at least 10000 + pretty good stats.

ps. I am not a source that isn't what i am speaking of.

If you are shipping out of the states into other countries, then you are more then likely to have custom problems. Countries that are strict are, South America (the worst) Japan, China...If you are ordering from Europe your chances are better. Also you would want to use a European based shipper like DHL. They were established in Europe and then worked into the domestic market. Federal Express, was born in the states and then worked into the European market. Austrailia is also tough at times, they fall into the Asia Pac market (china, japan, phillipines, etc...) I run all of our domestic and international shipments at my company (we are not a parcel service) so I deal with the Fed-Ex's, DHL's, UPS's etc....The documentation to clear customs is easiest with DHL, unless going to Canada then Fed-Ex is just as good.:D

chek

HEY cox
I totally concur with what you are rappin'
all 3 incidents i had were brazil (central america). and DHL is indeed the best hands down.

I put some time in at UPS unloading and loading trucks, and sorting packages. They have NO policies on checking packages or looking for suspicious ones. They have some people look over the package labels, but that's incase they weren't priced correctly. Hope this helps.:fro:

I work for UPS (supervisor). I have never seen anyone open a package because of suspicion. I did however see some dogs enter once but that ws because they had a tip. I am sure customs checks overseas pkgs (not really sure about that). Just make sure the package is packed very well! We have an area set up just for busted boxes and tape ups. So if it gets busted open, someone is sure to see what it is. We had a vet company send a box full of test, b-12 and other AS. A bottle of b-12 busted open so we had to open the box to see if it was hazerdous. When I looked in it...ohhh sooo much test! We boxed it back up and sent it on its way. (even tho we had to call the company about the broken bottle of b-12. Hope this helps

Injected1, straight from my mouth. 100% gone every damn bottle of it.;) I know that shit has tracking though so it makes it hard,,,,,,,, but damn if you could!!!!:mix:

By the way I did work for UPS for 5 years, sorting, loading, driving and supervising. You wont have anyone checking packages until they are off loaded from the planes and brought in to unload for sorting. As JamminJ had stated there is an area that they do reboxing, taping and check for ORM's (other regulated materials) products like areosols, flamibles etc...When you go to another country, customs does random inspects as well as coming into the US....Federal Express has basically the same policies. Never workded there, had freinds that worked there, but I did take a few tours to there Memphis facility..Thats there main hub.

I used to work at Fed Ex and I never saw anyone searching packages.... There really is no time. Once I saw drug dogs go down the conveyor belt, but those dogs only sniff for Heroin, Coke and Pot.

I've been a driver for UPS in the mid-west for two years and I have never seen anyone searching any packages looking for drugs. If its packaged well and kept generic looking there is never a problem, unless it breaks open. Just be sure to put enough bubble wrap in it..:p

Sounds like we got the domestic angle covered.

Anyone got some International info??

DHL or shit like that?

Anyone know if dogs can sniff AS or the oil they are dissolved in? Are they trained for this? Dogs only for mailed packages, or also at airports?

I worked for UPS in during summer breaks from school. The only time I saw packages being opened is if they were leaking (something busted inside). They did bring a dog in once for a suspected weed shipment...but that was in inner city baltimore (that place is hard core ghetto). So I agree the chances are very remote. It would be like hitting the lotto......but we do here of people hitting the lotto every day....so again there still is a chance!
