Ladies AND gentlemen... please share how you were proposed to, or how you proposed. If you're not married or have never been married, please share your 'dream' set-up. :) I'm curious.

Yeah, yeah. I'm a sucker for romance (at times).

Go to the boss, pay for her days off and have her sent on a vacation to Europe on a business trip plan a leisurely itinerary. Meet her and propose to her there after a few days when I'm supposedly at a conference ;).

I'm kidding, I'd never get married myself. That's what some other dude did, the girls who told me this seemed to eat that shit up.

I dated this girl for a year and a half. And even though I never proposed to her, her and her mother picked out a date, a church, and her dress. We were just driving along one day in the car and she filled me in on all this planning they had done. It was over about a week later, I felt like I was being trapped, I had to get out while I still could.

We never married, but my ex proposed in a very simple way:

I had come home to a hot bubble bath and a new bathrobe. He told me he knew my day at work had been rough and figured I could use the relaxation. After soaking I climbed out and put on my new robe... SOOO WARM! I slipped my hand in the pocket to find a note. Wrapped around the note was a ring. The note was a Chinese poem (translated to English of course) about love and devotion. At the bottom was "I will devote my life to you, if you will let me." Suffice it to say, I was in tears by the time I made it out to the living room.

That sounded sweet, sorry to hear things didn't work out. I have a huge fear of marriage myself, I don't trust enough.

Eh, it happens. I've tried not to let it harden my heart towards trying again.

Mine is sort of weird. We had ordered the setting and the stone separately. The stone came in on Feb 13th (the same day we got our mortgage). The ring setting didn't come in until the 20th. So we had 2 boxes that contained my ring but they weren't assembled. He had taken the 20th off and was so excited to show me the setting that I drove home from work. He proposed through the window of my truck holding just the 2 boxes. lol

The ring was all assembled on the 22nd. He felt like the proposal hadn't been too perfect (but what ever is) so he proceded to propose every couple of days up until the wedding. I thought it was cute.

being a butch dyke who squats and deadlifts HEAVY, fucking with a strap-on whilst stood up isn't exactly difficult. so i totally ragged this gorgeous femme about and she was so turned on by me being able to screw her standing up she just screamed at me to marry her..it was a hot thing to say and later on it made us laugh as neither of us has a streak of monogomy nor wish to settle down. ;)

OK, I'll play.

My ex-wife isn't much of a jewelry person so after dating for a year I really had no idea what kind of jewelry she liked. One day we were walking around a mall and I suggested we should just look around some jewelry stores so I could get an idea for what kind of rings she likes (at this point we both knew we were getting married eventually we just weren't in any rush). So we looked through a few stores and she didn't really like anything she saw until she found this one ring. She lit up so brightly that every saleswoman in the store immediately came over, she literally just fell in love with this ring insantly (and it was freakin gorgeous, probably the most brilliant ring I've ever seen). Unfortunately it was $5000 and she didn't want a ring worth more than a couple hundred because 1) she works on a farm, and 2) she rarely wears rings anyway. Plus we were saving for the wedding. So we decided it was too much and left it at that.

The next day I went back and bought the ring, talked them down to $4400 too. :D

But it was too soon to propose, so I just held onto the ring and waited for a good time to spring it on her. 8 months later we took a week off for vacation. Instead of going anywhere fancy we just took little trips around home all week long. One day, it was a sunny Thursday in the Fall, we took the Jeep off-roading in some mountains out in the middle of nowhere. Packed a picnic and a cooler and worked our way up to the top of the highest mountain for a fantastic view and had a long lazy lunch there. After we ate we did a little short hiking around the summit, got to the very highest spot on the mountain (spectacular view of the valleys) and it was there that I dropped on one knee and asked her to marry me. When she saw the ring she literally freaked and started giggling like a little school girl, when she could talk again her actual first words were "you fucking bastard!". Then she proceeded to maul me sexually for the next two hours, right on that mountaintop. It wasn't until hours later when we were walking back to the Jeep that I realized she hadn't actually given me an answer. She then said "Hell Yes I'll marry you".

That happened over 6 years ago, but it seems like just yesterday to me.

With mine, I had the whole thing planned out. The ride up the CN Tower. A candle lit dinner. Dressed to the nines. I was going to ask for my birthday. It was going to be special.

But, then I got impatient, so I woke her up early in the morning and asked her. She, groggy eyed, said, "If I say yes, do I still get the CN Tower dinner?" I said, "No, but you get another kind of tower..."

But, that's another story...

MUCH BETTER. Thanks guys and gals. :)

I'm a total sucker for romance, but i've never really had a proposal.
like a total dork, every year at valentines day i start crying at the diamond commercials- the ones where the guy gets down on his knee in a crowded square or surprises her when she's not expecting it.

Why? Would your SO surprising you with diamonds in a crowded square mean that much to you? I'm not trying to question the reaction, I just don't understand it.

I thought you were married?

When my husband proposed to me I didn't realize it was a full out proposal. I was 18 and had just graduated high school a few weeks prior and he was 20. We were hanging out in my bedroom and I was sitting on the edge of the bed and he was kneeling on the floor in front of me. When he asked if I'd be his wife I was thinking like...someday in the far distant future kinda question and I said yes but then he got very serious and told me he wouldn't accept my answer until a week had gone by and I had time to really think about it. A week later I was still saying yes and we went together to pick out my ring. He wanted to get me something larger, but I was never much for showy jewelry so I picked out less than half a karat round stone, the setting was very unique. We were married a few months later in City Hall with just our parents and our 2 witnesses, no reception or honeymoon, we didn't want to waste the money.

So...a couple of months ago our 20th anniversary was approaching. We'd been very busy with little time to spend together, so one Sunday (4 weeks before our anniversary) he said he wanted to take me down to the beach to watch the sunset and have a bite to eat at this fancy place, just the two of us. We're sitting there reminissing about the past 20 yrs. and I brought up how I didn't realize he was proposing to me when he asked me to marry him.

Well, I guess things haven't changed much because when he asked me if I'd be his wife and marry him again, I didn't think he was proposing and actually I teased him by delaying my "yes" answer. Just like last time, he got very serious on me, took my hand and asked me to marry him again, this time in a church with friends and family there, and he pulled out a new diamond ring. I was speachless but managed to say yes inbetween tears. People came over and congradulated us, little did they know we're already married 20 yrs.

Him asking me to be his wife again after all that time meant more to me than his original proposal. He had already spoken with the minister and had the church reserved, our wedding/renewal of vows was on our 20th anniversary. We wrote our own vows and there wasn't a single dry eye in the church (even the guys cried). He later told me that he was nervous proposing to me again. Right before we left to go to the beach he told our daughter that he was going to ask me to marry him again. She was anxiously waiting for a call to see if I said yes or not. LOL When he called her I asked her to be my flower girl and she said "Thank you for making my dream come true, I've always wanted to be a flower girl!"

We had a reception back home, food catered but I did the decorating and kept it fairly simple to about 40 people. The party got kinda wild towards later in the evening after older friends and family members had left. Everyone in the hot tub, doing body shots, dancing, lap dances, etc. We went to bed around 4am, friends stayed over, and at 6am we woke up with the news that a hurricane was hitting us in a few hrs. So...long story short, our wedding reception turned into a hurricane party and people were stuck at our house for 3 days. It was a blast! :)

You loyalty really bothers me considering your husband doesn't do enough to please you.

I proposed to my wife when I was 20 and she was 19. My band was playing at a university a couple hours away from home. She rode with me to the show. It was going to be a big show and we were all pretty excited about it. At this point, I had already started making payments on the ring but I was waiting until the right time to pay it off and actually propose to her. I had written a new song that was about her and we were playing it for the first time at this show. So I started thinking that maybe tonight would be the right time. So I told her I had to stop by my bank to take out some cash. The bank was right next to the jewelry store, so I snuck in, payed off the ring and put it in my pocket. I got back in the car and we went on our way. I was so nervous I could barely speak. We got to the venue and set up. We played our first two sets and the crowd was huge and really getting into the show. During our break before the third set, I told the rest of the band that I wanted to end the show with the new song, and during the solo, I was going to propose to my lady. They all started freaking out. They were already nervous due to the huge crowd (biggest show we had played at this point) and that we had never played the song in concert before. So we started the third set and then before the last song I slipped backstage and threaded a broken guitar string through the ring and then looped it over the headstock of my guitar. I went back on stage and my vocalist announced that this was our last song. My lady was right up against the stage cheering and shit. I sing lead vocals and play lead guitar for this particular song. So I start playing and singing the song and my future wife starts yelling at me that I have a broken string. She is freaking out because she thinks that one of my strings is busted and I won't be able to play the solo right and shit. Between verses I mouth to her "Look again". She looks closer and sees the ring hanging there. She instantly started bawling her eyes out and the people near her start freaking out too. Then the solo came. I use a wireless setup, so I walked off the stage, through the crowd to her and then kneeled down and proposed while playing the solo. The crowd went nuts. It was awesome. Between tears she said yes.

My wife knew I did`nt like going out much and stuff, so when I asked her to go out on a rainy, windy, almost hurricane-like conditions night to go see the big Christmas tree in New York, she said yes. We were at her house at 9 or 10PM and the weather would have kept anyone inside that night, the Ice skating rink was even closed that night (2 days before Christmas) because of the horrible conditions. My plan was to somehow propose to her under the tree or on the ice right next to the tree, but since the rink was closed, I had to think of something else really quick.

We walked around a little bit while the gears were spinning in my head. All this time she had no idea. Then we saw some street vendors by the tree who took pictures of you with whatever happened to be there. I thought I would ask him to snap a pic WHILE I was asking/proposing to her, that would have made an awesome thing to have for memories. As I got closer to the guy, he did`nt seem to speak english too well, so I ditched that plan... lol I did`nt wanna take any chances, I could only do this once. Keep in mind there`s strong winds and rain is practically horizontal and COOOOLD.

THEN IT HAPPENED, I see a horse and buggy ride where you go all around the city sitting in the back, that was what I would do. We get in and start going all around, at midway or so, I start telling her how happy she`s been making me and all the stuff to precede "the question". lol EVERY single time I started to talk, the driver would ask us some stupid ass question like "So, you on vacation?" or "How`s everything so far?" or... something to keep me from proposing! dman him!!!

Anyway, he finally shuts up for 2 minutes straight and I got on one knee and proposed while we were riding in the horse and carraige in the middle of New York City 2 days before Christmas. SHE SAID YES. and was very happy and excited. As I was down on one knee asking, a limo beside us rolled down their window and snapped a picture of us. lol They rolled the window back up, and took off, I never saw them again. I wish I had THAT pic.

We were engaged for about 2 years and married for 8 now.

We have sex every single Christmas. It`s coming soon, I can`t wait, 12 months of waiting is hell.

awesome stories gab and gonelifting

some very lucky women you have to have such sweet and thoughtful men.

My ex and i just agreed to get married - way to young and dumb to know what we were doing.

Great story, Puddles. My sucks and my wife always teases me about it each aniversary. So, for my 10th or 20th, I'm planning to back to the original plan just to see if she thought she made a mistake, because I'm a romantic at heart, and to shut her up. :)

lol

the actual details of bbf's to me are as follows:

i knew that he had planned to ask me at christmans, but his sister and mom kinda let the cat out of the bag. so a week before he asked for my parents permission. and of course they said yes.

well he was waiting for a good moment to do it and wanted to catch me off guard. so the night before thanksgiving, we were staying at his parents house in houston. i had fallen asleep because it had been a long day. well i woke up in his arms from having a very disturbing dream. as we layed there together, bbf was being very sweet and comforting me. he then went on to tell me about how forward he was to being able to live together in our own place soon. how much i have ment to him, being there for him when he needed someone. encouraging him to finish school, and being supportive of his bodybuilding. then he pulled me close and proposed to me. it was very touching just being there in his arms and being able to feel his heart beating. and yes i cried. i can't help it. i am a woman.

Marriage is not something you "find" or "win" or "get". It`s a lifelong commitment to another person EACH AND EVERY day of the rest of your lives. If you can`t do that, then you should`nt get married.

I dated a girl for 3 1/2 years. Proposed to her at the boardwalk where we first kissed (three years prior).

Long story short: She said yes. We were happy 6 months following. Then she breaks it off and goes back to an exBF of 5 years before us. They are now married.

Women suck. I'm waiting for the day they mass produce female robots.

ok, fuckit, you guys know everything else, why not this

i met this girl at a wedding, and we danced all night, kissed for a little, and clicked perfectly. we were 20, and fell into seeing each other like the most natural thing in the world. we were both students, i was to be a pharmacist, she was to be an architect, it was fantastic. we rented a home, filled it with stuff, bought a car, did the things that couples do. things were fantastic for about three years, we finished university, got jobs, she was working for a lone architect, and i was working in a community pharmacy doing my pre-reg year. we had discussed marriage, children...well not really, we just kind of assumed that it would happen, it really was great. i wanted kids later, she wanted them earlier, but that was all silly stuff anyway, so after a while i thought it was time. i didnt say anything to anyone, i went out and quietly bought a ring. it was simple, small, nothing to brag about, but then things werent too easy at the time financially. i held onto it for about 2 months, planning how to make the moment perfect, and before a long weekend, bought a surprise holiday package to Fiji (for those of you who dont know where that is, its a fantastic tropical holiday spot in the pacific) and surprised her with it. we got there, and on the second day, we were walking on the beach at night, it was a full moon, the sand was that blueish tinge taht you see in the movies, and i said "you know, this spot really is perfect" and stopped walking, knelt, and when she looked at me quizzically (she didnt know what was happening) i asked her, and she said yes. we had sex on the beach, but something was wrong, and when we got back to the resort, i asked her what was going through her mind..and crying, she told me that she had been cheating with her boss for the past five months

i moved out the day following our return to australia, moved across the country, and havnt spoken to her since, which is why im on the net so much i guess

so there you go

Better finding out ahead of time though...........(insert rest of cliche)

In truth though man, if she could do that for 5 months without saying a word, that's definitely someone you dont need to have around you. The woman is low

um, did you miss my story? That put a big hole in my heart.

That happened 3 years ago. I did not find one single girl I wanted to even have a second date with since then until the recent "20 yr old" I dated. If I had to write down everything I wanted in a female, she met them all almost completely. Then she left me.

So yeah, I know what it's like. It's not funny, but being miserable over it isn't going to accomplish anything. Lighten up.

nothing quite like having your insides ripped out through your mouth... I have been right there, right where you were. I packed my shit, and left NY for a new life. Found it, too. More things in heaven and earth, horatio.

Trite would be the word for any advice, condescending would be good for any assumption that I am in a position to give you any. If it helps for any odd reason: I understand.

JK, aap. I love you so much.

Hey, after about the 15th thread and 35th Instant Message exchange, it finally stopped.

A good line from the movie Alexander. Phillip of Macedonia to young Alexander, "Beware of women, they are far more dangerous than any man." Or something like that.

In truth though man, if she could do that for 5 months without saying a word, that's definitely someone you dont need to have around you. The woman is low

Yeah seriously, at least she had the decency to tell you the truth instead of just marrying you and continuing to fuck around on you. You did the right thing by walking away and never talking to her again. Way to be a man, I'd give you K if I could.

I know this isnt a fair statement, and there are no shortage of male psychopaths.

But in my observation I have never seen the same capacity for pure cruelty in men that I ahve observed in women. Not saying it doesnt exist, but I have just never seen it

Unless you date men, you probably will never see it. Men can be just as cruel, believe me.

As I said, I recognize the statement is unfair, and purely based on my own limited observation.

Let me just clarify though that I wasnt actually referring to anyone I have been involved with personally.

Yes, men can be as well, but having dated both men and women, I find women to be worse more often and are usually much sneakier.

The girl i used to date and live with in cali was a psycho, but that only happened after we moved in together. All of a sudden, out of no-where a friend of mine congratulated me on being engaged. WTF!?! Apparently she had the date and everything picked out.

We had never even talked about it before. Needless to say, it was over shortly after that and her psycho ass went to live with her parents in maryland. That is my only marriage story, and it sucks knowing that it actually happened

ok, fuckit, you guys know everything else, why not this

i met this girl at a wedding, and we danced all night, kissed for a little, and clicked perfectly. we were 20, and fell into seeing each other like the most natural thing in the world. we were both students, i was to be a pharmacist, she was to be an architect, it was fantastic. we rented a home, filled it with stuff, bought a car, did the things that couples do. things were fantastic for about three years, we finished university, got jobs, she was working for a lone architect, and i was working in a community pharmacy doing my pre-reg year. we had discussed marriage, children...well not really, we just kind of assumed that it would happen, it really was great. i wanted kids later, she wanted them earlier, but that was all silly stuff anyway, so after a while i thought it was time. i didnt say anything to anyone, i went out and quietly bought a ring. it was simple, small, nothing to brag about, but then things werent too easy at the time financially. i held onto it for about 2 months, planning how to make the moment perfect, and before a long weekend, bought a surprise holiday package to Fiji (for those of you who dont know where that is, its a fantastic tropical holiday spot in the pacific) and surprised her with it. we got there, and on the second day, we were walking on the beach at night, it was a full moon, the sand was that blueish tinge taht you see in the movies, and i said "you know, this spot really is perfect" and stopped walking, knelt, and when she looked at me quizzically (she didnt know what was happening) i asked her, and she said yes. we had sex on the beach, but something was wrong, and when we got back to the resort, i asked her what was going through her mind..and crying, she told me that she had been cheating with her boss for the past five months

i moved out the day following our return to australia, moved across the country, and havnt spoken to her since, which is why im on the net so much i guess

so there you go
WHOA! I got all knoted up inside when I read that. Wow, I feel for you, but can't say I've experienced anything close to that, and I hope I never will.

Mawwage. Mawwage is what bwings us here today. That bwessed awwangement, that dweam within a dweam."

Ah, I knew you didn't have balls like that! If you had then you would have hooked up with that model instead of letting her just walk out of your life like the limp-dick pansy that you are. Yet again you prove yourself!

Dude I've already passed a 300 signature petition around and handed it to George Spelwin himself, but somehow he's still here.

Perhaps we can all pitch in and buy a 'banning'. You know, like how we can buy karma now.
