Sex & Powerlifting!!!

ok, here is the question: does sex effect your lifiting & strength? Let me explain why i ask:

Back in the days while boxing, my coach would always tell us NO SEX for 2 weeks before any fight! He said we would loose, aggresion, motivation, strength, focus, etc!! I thought it sounded true and listened since i wanted to be at my best.
Recently, my old powerlifting coach said we should not have sex 10 days before a meet!! Saying the same reasons as above.

Does everyone beleive this and follow this "rule"? ;)

does it really make a difference?
 
Hell no it doesnt effect anything. You may have read about my wild days in bars ETC. I have truly mellowed. At 16 i got into boxing and actually compiled a 13-1 amatuer boxing record. Nothing major it was all fun. But i heard the same shit. And its exactly that ...shit. Powerlifting same thing.

Here is my take. I will be staight up honest with you. Dude i can have sex multiple times a day. Call it to much test or being young (boxing days) but either way i love to get it on. So much in fact it runs alot of my thoughts. So if i do not have sex my mind drifts towrds when i WILL do it again. Now dont go fuckin from 9pm till the sun rises. But get your shit done and ou tof your mind so yu can concentrate at the task at hand. If i try to hold out i will just end up jerkin in the shower anyway. So my advice do it and clear you r mind so you can concentrate on what needs to be done. How much energy do you really burn. Have her get on top and ride one out so you can relax. Or swap oral. Either way slow and good!
 
hell, its been a long 14 years w/o sex for me.... i dont think its helped my lifting much..... if you really believe its true... do a test... before one of your ME days, have sex, and see how you do.. than next week dont have sex, and see how you do
 
Jay, damn, thats what I was hoping but you know everyone says dont do this and that!!
Well my g/f thought I was crazy when i first mentioned this one day, then after gettin it on w/her, and asked her to come to the gym with me, she barely wanted to get out of bed, much less go W/O! She was like now I know why they say that about sex....Well for me as long as its not like "right-before" I think im straight!!:fro:

Well let me rephase what i said. Its ok but not moments before. Now i can do this. I have PR'd after having sex literally 30minutes before i leave to the gym. Liek i said relax while you do it. I have sex everyday, if not with my wife I...well you knwo! And that to me take more energy then with her. So be safe night before OK, moments before no. Now i wouldnt do it 30 minutes before a meet but i alway do the night before. That way i aint thinkin about gettin my freak on when i should be thinking of my lifts! If your up in arms over it be safe and dont do it. Its just my opinion.

Mike Tyson for the record doesnt believe that myth either.
 
I fully agree ... Also I seem to think that probably about 12-24 hrs you will probably be "recovered" and ready to go Seems to work from what i have seen so far...just trying to see what everyone thinks.... I now look back and think that this 2 weeks sh!t was crazy!!! :D

I think that i read somewhere that having sex before a big physiacal exersion can actually increase test levels. I'm not sure though and if i ever got that involved as to obstaine ,my girl would definately leave me

I was just about to ask about test levels.....here is what i think:

1) If these coaches had any "Truth" to what they are saying, then having sex anytime would effect your lifting!! If you have to wait 2 weeks to have "all of your strength" for a meet, then imagine sex 1-2 days before a ME day ... that would be crazy, you would never be able to make PR's!! They should then just say when training for strenght, do not Ever have sex :D ..... or maybe in your "off season" or something :D

2) They say that sex decreases your test...Well personally I dont think so...I have heard in many other places that it Increases it, and also many hormones like GH .... Maybe not right after, but somehow it does later.. Maybe like a workout, it will decrease for a min, then shoot up past where it was before.... Well Im not an expert on test, so if anyone can help out here please do :fro:
 
No offense to your coach or any coaches but what do they know? They pass these wise tales down that they got from there coach. Next thing you knwo your practicing shit from 1955!

Sex increases test levels. That is why i tell my wife i must have sex with her. Or i need to shower ALONE. I am releasing test!

NO for real man to be safe dont do it 30 minutes before only because it may make you a tad bit more passive. I personally dont believe that either , but like i said to be safe. But the night before go for it. At least then you can think about your squat depth , or warm ups while you try to fall asleep,the night before a big contest, not pussy!

still not sure exactly how the test works, but I'm sure not gonna worry about this 2 week BS anymore....:D I can tell my girl it ON from now on..............not that we waited the full 2 weeks anyway.....

if youre that worried do an experiment and that should tell you...really not that big a deal imho.

but i dont buy it hurting your perfermance...looking for ass will drain you more than getting it on...
 
Well a while back on the boards there was this talk of something called cardio, and thats when I normally try and have sex on my off days which I make my cardio days. the way I figure it is you're burning ALOT of calories doing it so why do it on a lift day. :D
 
lifting with a loaded weapon is dangerous, cuz your either oggling spandex chics in the gym or rushing through your sets to get home and call up some ho
 
my rules:

sex of any kind is allowed whenever i am lucky enough to get it, even if it is 5 minutes before a squat workout.

on heavy days, i try and cut my masturbation activities down to under 5 x a day, and never right before lifting. j/k

i tried not having sex once and found that i just got in more fights. kindof silly if you ask me.

my friend reminded me of an australian football player who got laid the night before, everything was all well and good. except his wife promised certain sexual acts and positions that havent been done before (whilst talking dirty). he would only get the favours if his team one.

the whole match he couldnt concentrate and fumbled the ball a lot....all he could think about was the sex after the match.

ps after running a test:
no sex doenst effect powerlifting, although it had been a while.
when i went to training today all i could think about was last night.....i lost focus and lost count, but still made progress in my PR's
 
I have to go with Irishpower and Jay on this one. I have had sex before fights, and before lifting, and I have also fought without having had sex and have lifted without having had sex. It makes no difference. If you are so out of shape that a little nookie the night before a performance is going to knock you off your level, then you need to be in better condition.

I have sex as often as I possibly can. If I did not, there would be a lot of injured and dying people around me. And incidentally, guys for your prostate's health, it is important to "release" as Jay put it, every single day. I never miss a day and neither should you. You prostate will thank you for it in a few years.

HEY BRAIN are you joking about it's good to release everyday or are you serious about the prostate thing. If it really is that way then shit I'ma have to be with my g/f alot more and when it comes around that time of the month settle for her hand. ;)
 
more than once a day ! the more loads you blow, the more conditioned you are to make the baby batter, the longer you can fuck, then stay hard after numerous loads are blown. this makes sense, think hard about it.
 
That's a really good thought bro, I've been wonderin why I shoooot faster and then go longer. I'm gonna have to practice more.
 
If you really think sex is going to effect the outcome of your meet go without if you can. I actually think it may be benificial to go without for a week or 2 at a time(not every week). You will enjoy it that much more when you do get it.

I am completely serious about that. When I was about 21 or 22, I got congestive prostatitis, which as it was explained to me, was basically my pipes got backed up and clogged a bit. The doctor asked me if I had been having sex a lot, and had suddenly stopped, I replied that I had gotten married recently.

He said that stopping the sex cold turkey (by getting married) my prostate was producing fluid much faster than it was leaving the body, and it caused a backlog. His advice was to make sure and ejaculate every day. He advised that because most men slow down their ejaculations as they get older, that is why their prostates swell up to the size of basketballs. I have followed his advice since then, and have never had any problems since.

After this episode, I was told by a friend in the medical community that if a man lives long enough, and nothing else kills him, he will always get killed by his own prostate.

Something to think about, and I am not joking about this matter.

i know sex effects my training--- without it i dont care to train----i just want to go home and have it

i read that releasing actually produces more test and the more sex you have with your woman the more she wants it because she absorbs some of your test(i really read this)which is the key ingredent that gives them desire. maybe thats why my wife can get so built shes absorbing my test

Yeah,

this is something trainers tell you, so that you would be concentrated on the event and wouldn't mess things up with your girlfriend just before major events.

My swimming coach told us the truth back in the days. Actually, you should shoot a load last night before your event since your balls will start reloading your testosterone levels. If I remember correctly about 8 hours before the event was the best time.
