Serious problem with my PC (help)

I just moved to a new place, and when I got a new cable service hooked up my computer went nuts.

I have two hard drives

1st is the (C) and (D)

2nd is the (L) drive

Well, I have no (L) drive anymore, none existent, I click on the L drive and it says it is not formatted, do I want to format?

The second problem is I have popups and when I go to my computer it takes like 10 seconds to load up, and if I click the (D) drive it takes about the same amount of time to load for some weird reason (I’m thinking major virus)

And I can’t get into ad remove programs. It will just sit on the screen without loading for up to 20 min (longest I’ve waited)

I’ve tried to get into it in save mode as well, acts the same.

I run and update Norton, ad-ware and spybot everyday, and have done so for the past 3 years…..any thoughts?

I'd have to see it, but if you have a copy of partition magic, or a like HD maintenance program, you can check to see the logical drives that are registered, and see if you can recover them...

I assume based on your statemetns that you don't have a serious virus, or spyware program on, but it sure sounds like it...

sounds to me like the disk may have gotten jostled during the move and some info is just corrupted. So is the cdrom drive E:? make sure the letters are the same they were before.

i say format it.. seriously, back up any data you need and wipe them out. its not worth trying to get rid of all that spyware, it just gets worse. :(

yeah, i dont have any of that stuff, my bro does though, he also has my copy of XP

Agreed. You can typically tell if when trying to access the disk, you hear a repetitive sound like the computer is trying to read the same place over and over.

1. Right click on "My Computer" and click "Manage". Go to "Disk Management" and see if the computer recognizes all of your drives and check to see that they are formatted.

2. Right click on the drive and click "Properties" and then click on the "Tools" tab and do a check for errors. If you can't see the drive in the window, open up a DOS window and use CHKDSK to check the drive(s) for errors.

If you get a ton of sequential errors..."Block 5443 is bad... Block 5444 is bad..." You probably have a physically damaged hard drive. Salvage all the files you can, trash it and get another.

Hope this helps...
