man this shit is amazing i just got a quick job for the holidays as a security guard, man let me tell you behind the scenes first hand these guys act like drug task force agents. some are juiced to the gills and some have more dedication to the job than most do to thier lives.. i can go on and on about these guys.. the shit makes me lmao though witch is a plus

As long as you're enjoying yourself at the expense of the sad and pathetic lives of others, it's all good.

There's a reason why we call them "rent-a-cop". Most of them wouldn't/could't make it through police academy or QUantico or whatever else. It's basically the bottom of the barrel.

lol, there's this security guard I see almost everyday. he's always running place to place frantically, talking into his hand-held motorola, acting like he's a cop in foot pursuit.

most of your security guards couldn't pass a complete background investigation or even a simple ncic check for getting hired.

LMAO I knew a guy just like that. He felt so important being a security guard, it was sad, but funny. He was always acting like he was in the FBI.

shhhhhhhh! not so loud. im working here till my town has an anouncement for police officers.. thats not for a whhile though

easy tiger...also a job that pays the bills while you attempt to get IN to those places.

I drive an armored car part time...pays the bills while i attempt to convince a certain organization to give me a job.

6 years of university? Getting paid 10 bucks and hour.

Although i will agree that there are a lot of super-cop wannabe's amongst the ranks of these guys...just DON'T put us all in the same damn group.

guards, 10/hr with a goal is better than 20/hr without.

My thoughts exactly...at least SOMEONE understands.

I know security guards get a bad rap...sometimes well deserved....but it's a job that pays the minimums on my loans so i can survive.

Although it can be difficult taking orders from a man 8 years younger than me, with no highschool diploma.

Law school? What? And i STILL work in a shitty job...bwwahahahaahahahaah....the irony.

Someday...sigh

First you're underpaid. Security guard must be paid a minimum of 12$/h here, or 14.15$/h if armed.

Then you know like me how most of them feel. You give them a pair of cuffs, they feel badass, you then issue these jerks an ASP and you have a bunch of wannabe Terminators.

Some armored car company make sense (brinks, Loomys) but others just suck big time (securicor, Guarda, Secur, Sec-Pro). I see the Securicor guys everyday: most are overweight, haven't shot their wheelgun in a while and pretend to be real cops. Lol...

Last thing: I know what organization you're talking about and trust me, being a security guard is not a guarantee. First pass the test and score a minimum of 4.2 on 5. Then pass the physical test and finally, just cross your fingers and hope they'll like your face during the interview. If you have what it takes, you'll get hired :)

oh i thought we were talking about bouncers...now THEY have God comlexes..

thats why you laugh when some mad bastard comes along loaded on speed and beats the bejesus out of the whole door crew

i love seeing those fat heroes get slammed out of their delusions by a better man :D shame its a relatively rare event tho

The physical test is easy as fuck. Probabally the reason there are so many fat ass cops thinking they are fucking bad ass cuz they carry a gun and badge.

The one in the RCMP is not that easy.

RCMP? Whats that? What are the requirements and tests? The tests cops have told me about are rediculously easy.

The RCMP are the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or Mounties. They are more like rangers than cops, and have to be much more fit and prepared than regular cops.

i disagree,

there are "rent-a-cops" out there. but since 9-11 it is a very lucrative buisness.

ill have my own security co. ready by spring. there is good money in it.

and me personaly i used security to help pay for school so after the academy. i wont be stuck writing tickets for the rest of my career.

i wouldnt call it the bottom of the barrel for me it was the starting line for a great career in law enforcment and my own buisness

One of my buddies says, "security guard are just the guys that couldn't pass the psychological portion of the police test." Not saying its true, but its funny.

I work in the maritimes, our union doesn't give a shit about our wages...hence why i am so underpaid. STUPID TEAMSTERS! Still a student (technically, although i feel like a dinosaur in my classes) so i am only a casual employee.

I got a 4.2 on my RPAT and ran the PARE in 3 minutes and 43 seconds....it was a joke.

Interview went really well.....just waiting for my damn call!!! Stupid background invesitgation takes forever.

Think you could nudge someone for me to get it sped up? Please? I will give you the biggest hug EVER!!!

LOL
:)

The background investigation usually takes around a week or two. Then give them about 3-4 weeks to complete the report handle it to the recruiters. Dont be surprised if they ask you to take the PARE again, cause it's only valid for 6 months. BTW where are you gonna ask to work ?

I would LIKE to work in Alberta, hopefully close to the national park, but i would go anywhere they asked me to. Not terribly picky as long as i don't end up in Ottawa....I HATE Ottawa!

From what i have heard, they haven't been able to fill the last 2 troops at depot, is this true? I am just trying to kill time until my phonecall and it would be nice to have an idea of the timeframe.

BTW, if you dno't mind me asking, what capacity are you working in in Montreal? You can't be on the road in that city....can you?

Shouldnt be hard to have Alberta since most folks usually dream og BC, Ontario (next to impossible) and Ottawa. Nunavut, North West Territories and Yukon are never given to newbies. It's on request and for experienced officers.

I heard the same about Depot but dunno if it's actually true. I guess it's not something they're proud of.

I mostly (but not exclusively) enforce the Drug act. Spend most of my time working in the Montreal area but I've also been a lot at Lacolle lately (US-Canada border) and Dorval. Quebec (like Ontario) is not a contract province so things are way different. There's no speed ticket or by-laws to enforce. No bars to clean up at 3AM. It's more about investigation, aptrolling federal facilities, enforcing federal laws (drug, explosives, customs, migratory birds....). That's what I wanted but trust me, not everyone feels like doing this shit. Most guys at Depot were looking for the typical cop shift.

You all know me and how I make my living. I love the power that being a security officer affords. I get to legally harass people all day and they hate my guts. I just smile at them because there's nothing they can do about it. I can write them up and they can get fired if they cop an attitude with me. I am the man.

Haha! I was just bullshittin'. I'm one of the most easy going security officers on the planet. I hate bothering people and I prefer that they don't bother me, unless they are an attractive female.

I have already fulfilled my life long dream to be a security officer in a corporate environment, take it easy all day and flirt with hot women. Now I want to be a world champion in the bench press and become a member of MENSA, but those are secondary goals.

Where was your first posting? Did you end up out west? How long did it take you to specialize and get off the road? How did you find depot? Good time? Challenging?

SOrry for all the questions....just curious. Do you guys have any problems with the local police? competition?

for the record...i hate the SQ!

:)

Yea I guess security guard can be considered bottom of the barrel. But its a job that pays the bills. Like Biteme I myself work the coporate security. Easiest job I have ever had. Pay isn't the greatest but at least its a cushy job. Many hot coporate women to flirt with all day. There really isn't much of a future in it, but I can't think of an easier job.

I was sent to Lacolle right after Depot. Those who are bilingual and willing to work in a non-conventionnal way, can easily be sent to Quebec as long as they finish in the top 5 of their troop. Many officers are retiring here (Quebec used to be the last-stop for Mounties years ago) but no one is coming here cause of the high taxes, political BS and the fact that working mostly in an office ain't the funniest thing for many folks.

So it's either you end up in a specialized unit right after Depot, or you spend 3-4 years on the roads. Having a degree is a must for specialized units unless you have a shitload of road experience.

Depot was hard time. Regina is boring. The weather is far different from what I was used to. While I could do the PARE in less than 3 1/2, there things weren't the same. Add a good 10-15 seconds to your PARE score. Depot is mostly theory (70%), the rest being drills, physical training and shooting (30%). There're three keys tests: the driving test, the "scenario" and the shooting test. Of course you have all these little exams but these means failure for many recruits. Let's say these will be your 25 longest weeks in your life.

Finally, we dont really have problems with the Montreal Police. Basically we dont care about them. We find them funny with their badass attitude. SQ is even worse. These guys cannot even afford batons (ASP or PR-24) and shotguns. They'Re among the worst shooters I've seen but will put the blame on their Glocks. Funny cause years ago they were blaing their old .38 revolvers... Mounties at Dorval had problems with the SQ in the past. Sometimes, they needed to remind them that Airports were of federal juridiction...
