Seatbelts

argent

New member
I am all for wearing a seatbelt as far as my saftey is concerned. But does they government have the right to take money from me(fine) if I don't?

I dont feel that they do

Funny you mention this argent, Today was the first day in AZ that the fuzz can actually pull you over and ticket you for only a seatbelt violation alone.

Government intrusion is getting worse everyday. and with 9-11 they are scaring everyone into givingup their rights.

BULLSHIT

First it was seatbelts...then you had to have a shoulder strap...now an airbag...next its side door airbags i think i'm protected enough!!!!!!Thay'll prob make us wear helments next!!!!

How about those Mavericks?

I believe they'll take it all the way!

It sux. I mean the law is so stupid when you think about it. They let motorcycles ride on the rode with no seatbelt yet they don't let people with a car around them not wear them. You people in cars need better lobbyist Heck in Texas us bikers don't even have to wear helmets.

btw wodin and chester this thread is about seatbelts not some silly tall lanky dudes that throw a round ball through a hoop wearing funny looking shorts.

i think they're just trying to reduce the number of human vegtibles that are the result of traffic accidents.

besides, common sense says wear the seatbelt.

it;s the insurance lobby.

Seatbelts are common sense. The government has no right to legislate common sense.

Common sense tells you not to smoke and drink and yet they are still legal how come not wearing a seatbelt is? Face it you people cars got the shaft from the insurance lobby.

If not wearing my seatbelt allows me to be happy i.e. pusue happiness, then how are they NOT interfereing with my basicv freedoms when they tell me I have to do something like this.
And furthermore, what can we do about getting shit like this dictated to us?

You can tell your piece of crap congressman and representatives to quit taking kickbacks and payoffs from the insurance lobby and give your freedom back or you ain't going to vote fer their ass again.

Yes they most certainly do have the right to because yes it may be your decision not to wear one but if you crash its not just you it effects. First think of all the money its gonna cost having all the emergency service personnel out. Secondly not to mention the emontional cost to those who turn up
and thirdly and most importantly what about when an officer has to turn up to you partner/wife/husband/parents/children etc and break that kind of news.

People don't realise that its not only effecting them, it can effect many people.

im getting of the soapbox now, i've have my rant, im going back to sleep.

peace.

Why is smoking legal then? It affects just as many people as driving without a seatbelt. The hypocrysy in this country never ceases to amaze me.

I wear a seat belt all the time. With that, how about they stop making cars out of shitty materials? The cars I see on the road are so flimsy that if you were to get into an accident, then they might as well bury you in the piece of shit.

Have you ever seen anyone whos gone through a windscreen because of a lack of a belt or seen a backseat passenger hit a front one again because of a lack of a belt.

smoking does not turn your head to mush, or put bits of shattered skull and brains all over the road, so that when you walk up to the car you can hear crunch, crunch under your feet.

i could describe the picture you would see at the scene but i think is too graphic to post here.

My cousin ruptered his spleen b/c he didn't have one on. He would have been impaled by a metal bar if he was.

I'd be dead if I wasn't wearing one. An 18 yo girl didn't see my car and t-boned us, causing us to roll over twice. The roof partially collapsed where I was sitting - if I wasn't wearing a seat belt I would probably have been ejected from the car. As a side not, two childrens seats worked as advertised - kids walked away without a scratch.

I am all for wearing them out of self-preservation, but the police want to fine me if I ignore my instinct of self-preservation and not put it on.

Oh I know bro. I just wanted to reiterate that I'm not against wearing them, just the fining for not doing so. No anger here, and I'm glad you and everybody was OK in that accident.

NO THEY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO.

I was in a pretty serious accident when I was 17 or so. Van went off the highway and tipped over then hit a big mound of dirt. Went from 60mph-0mph in about half a second...sideways.

I was the only person not wearing a seat belt, and oddly enough, I walked away whithout a scratch -- everyone else had concussions, lacerations, and broken bones.

That being said, ony a total moron woudln't buckle up. :) However, I don't belive the government has any right to tell people to do so.
