Thanks for the link chad (and on my board too). I noticed you are in SC, are you going to the APA nationals in VA?
(I have no idea how far that is for you)

A whole bunch of us from WDB will be there (me too).

Ah, oh well... I think there is a meet on Dec. 7th at Iron Island gym (on Long Island). since its about 12 minutes from me, i figured I'd go take a look. I don't know what fed though.

There is a guy a few years older from you from New Jersey who i would imagine would go- Tommy M.
and I assume a few of the guys from freakforum are going.

Where did you hear there was an Iron Island Meet in Long Island in Dec????

My understanding is there will not be meets held there since the last one I was at last year during October, their Halloween Meet.

Let me know the info, date time, email or number regarding this meet and I'm their, I'm from Brooklyn, New York and aside from Iron Island you will not find a meet anywhere in these parts.

Let me know guys.

I know Iron Island meets have their regulars, like Bill Crawford, probably Vince Dizenzo, maybe even Joel Toranzo, and Jon Bott usually runs them. Let me know what you know because I have not heard or read anything regarding this.

Mike, my partner told me recently, but i just looked and saw a post by Chris Taylor who said he'd be getting applications out soon for the meet. I think they stopped having APA meets there, but i could be wrong about that.
If i see more info, i'll let you know.

Most would consider that touch and go. No real pause there, but no bounce either. He did smoke it, very very impressive. Look out Glen Chabot. Mendelson can do some big raw benching too.

A pause in my experience, which is admittadly not a tremendous amount of experience, is bring the bar down, as soon as it is still on the chest, receive the "Press" command, and then lock it out. Honestly when wearing a shirt, I don't think that a breif pause makes a bit of difference. However, when benching raw, I think it makes all the difference in the world, as you don't have a shirt to help get the weight started.

Unreal impressive lift there tho. Do not think for one instant that I am critisizing Mendy here. He got a quick press command, and he lifted the weight, with an outstanding and very fast, lockout. Very amazing stuff. We should all be in awe of this man's otherworldly strength.

I just watched the video of Mendy's 644. Now that was a good pause, IMO. No question on that one. And really, no question on the other one. He did not beat the press signal in either clip. And the lifter only has to wait till he gets the press command, waiting any longer is foolish.

Once again. Amazing stuff.

I don't give a f*ck if he bounced the sh*t off his sternum, ...only a handful of peeps lifting that kind weight (with a shirt no less).

My hats off to Mendy!!!!

He's definately getting 800 real soon.

So why hasn't Mendelson shirted up and broken the 800lb barrier? Can't most people get about a 10% increase if they are very experienced and are strong enough to use a double denim (or whatever the top guys like Kennely/Halbert use)? Is he a RAW only guy or is he the one to finally dispel the myth that even the top-of-the-line shirt won't add 150lbs to anyone's bench? Either way, he is one strong SOB. Doesn't he have an article on elitefts.com about visiting westside? I think I'll go read it...
 
Jayde- My buddie's name is Pete G. He'll be in the 220's. He's a Junior if they have that division. I wish I could be there, but I am doing a push/pull on the same day upstate. If our meet gets done early, maybe we'll make the stop on our way back. :D


Mike- I live out in Suffolk County and the place I'm doing my meet has been holding at least 2 meets a year for the last few years. I just pulled at a push/pull there in July. It is only like an hour and 20 minutes from me, so you are even closer. It is in Brewster.

I've seen the meets listed in Brewster, NY just never picked up a map to check where the heck Brewster was, I figured it was way out in the boonies.

But Dead, Jayde, do we have definite confirmation on the Iron Island meet Dec. 7, its not listed in Powerlifting USA or PowerMag a.k.a Monster Muscle mag.

Like I said, I'll try and call Iron Island when I get a chance.

Dead, what are you looking to pull at the Dec meet?

I'm almost positive... i know people making plans to come to NY for it, and i saw a post about how applications were going out soon.
Nobody on my discussion board is from LI, but my partner is a moderator on freak forum. I'll ask him to get me some more info from those guys. Or, i'll get with it and call Iron Island myself and drop you a note.

i was at a meet last sat and saw DD Nichols do 705 for one rep easy. I will post a pic latter. He also came in at 7%bf. at 275
